Katana Ringtone format?

Hello all. I'm new here and to all of this downloading to the phone stuff. I want to put some ringtones into my Katana. First off I can't find any info as to what file format that this phone uses for ringtones. All I can find is in Sanyo literature is: 72 chord polyphonic cmx4.3 Next, I want to know if the data cable that I ordered can be used to put ringtones into the phone without using the text or internet phone service (I'm too cheap to pay any more than my bill already is). I also need someone to help me with the steps I need to go through to make this all happen - like what software to use,and any FREE ringtone sites or software to convert my current songs to whatever format I need. Thanks for your patience and help. I REALLY am new to this.

Yea I'd like to know the same thing, I'm exactly the way you are haha I have the $30 plan and don't really have much more money to spend on texts. I too have also ordered a USB cable and want to know these same things. I have sent stuff to my phone which is wasting/costing me money, which sucks. But maybe when we get the cable we can extract that preview file that comes with the phone to see what type of file it is? Other than that I'm at the same stage you are!

I already wasted text messages sending mp3, mmf, and amr or whatever all to my phone only to find out nothing is compatible But on a side note the Katana does have firmware updates, I'm not to familiar with new cell phones but is that Katana only? Maybe with newer updates they will add more playback features if they ever make one??? I'd like info on this phone as well, there isn't really much told about it!

I guess I'm kinda lucky. I have a brother-in-law that works for sprint and I was setup on his employee plan. As far as I know access to the internet or by text is the only way. There might be a way to do it with the cable you ordered but I don't know for sure.

My wife recently got a Katana and I have been using Crostel.com to send her ringtones. Midi & MP3 both work through the website and the cost is free.If you need volume stick to Midi for now because the software through the site cuts the bitrate so much that some gets lost. It's not really bad but it does cut it. I'm doing some more research to find a good program to convert. I'm told that QCP files work but since I'm new to bothering with ringtones, I'm learning too.
As far as the cable goes, Sprint says you can access the internet but I haven't had it work yet (almost time to call tech support).
As for file transfer, I haven't tried any yet but BitPim may have something to use and it is a free program. The Katana is relatively new so you may end up having to buy the software IF you can find one to do it.

I can't get my USB cord drivers to work with my phone either so, I'm having no luck and I cancelled my internet since this month is almost over. I had a free month of service so I was able to get a few things on there, but now need to get a working cord to transfer without having to use the net, any luck anyone?

Well I have internet so that is no problem for me but I have no clue how or about doing it. Does anyone have a step by step for me? Yes I'm cell phone stupid....lol

the katana uses the .qcp format. i don't have or use a cable so i have no idea how to do it with that. but if you have internet, this is how i do it.

download audacity from here Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder make sure you also download the lame mp3 encoder so you can export your file as an mp3. load your mp3 or wav file into audacity and select the section of the file you want as your ringtone. once you have what you want, export it as an mp3. you might have to play with the bit rate settings as you'll need to keep the file under 200k.

after you have your mp3 file go to this page
Convert Ringtones - free online ringtone converter (SMAF MMF, MIDI, SP-MIDI, Nokia, Sagem, Motorola, WAVE, MP3, AMR, IMelody, eMelody) and up near the top left click on the online converter link. follow the instructions to load your file and pick your phone and it will upload and convert your file to the proper ringtone format. download the new file to your computer, then go to this site to send it to your phone Mobile Phone Uploader you need to know your sms email address. i.e [email protected] or you can just put the file in and get the jump code and use your phone to go to the wap site they specify.

that's it. i'm on bell and i've never had a problem using this method yet. the audacity program is also great if the ringtone you found is to quiet, as you can amplify the sound or do pretty much what ever you want to it.

I tried to do this and I'm getting an error message at the converter. I changed the bit rate and everything and I'm still getting an error that says

"The ringtone you provided is either in the incorrect format, or it's contents have been corrupted without ability to repar the sound file on the fly, or its size exceeds the maximum allowed limit. Please check your file, make sure that it's in the correct format and try again.

Please keep in mind that renaming MP3 files into MIDI won't help you to convert them into note-based ringtones.

I have a katana and searched HIGH AND LOW on what is compatible...finally found out sprint phones use a file called PUREVOICE...QUALCOMM or QUALOGIC i forget which one but either way it's called PUREVOICE CONVERTER if you want to convert mp3's to a sprint compatible file

the problem is being able to send the qualcome purevoice files to your phone...most online mobile phone uploaders dont support the file

I know this is a pretty old topic but the problem I'm having is trying to tranfer ringtones from the sd card to the phone. I've put the tones in the media folder but when it asks me where I want to transfer them to my ringtones folder isn't on the list. I've put mp3 ringtones on the card and the phone recongnizes them and plays them, but as far as setting them as ringtones???? Any ideas?

I can get my tone to download, (it is in .qcp format), but my phone keeps saying "invalid content". It does the same thing if I try to download an mp3 as well.

Anyone have a solution to this/
