I noticed someone asked this question in 2004. I was hoping there might be some current information on the topic. I don't need any frills just a good phone to be used in an open boat in the sun. The screne on my current phone, an older Razr is all but black in the sunlight. I,m brand new here so any help will accepted. Thanks

The more colors the screen can show the better. Organic Light Emmiting Diode (OLED) screens do a bit better as well. Best bet is to keep any phone OUT of direct sun-light. Seeing as you're looking to use it -the phone- while on a boat, this may be a bit hard to do.

Keep in mind that even the options I gave above aren't 100%. NO screen is going to provide you with the same quality as you'd get indoors while in full on sun light.
