probably has to do with the fact this phone does not have an 850mhz band and most GSM providers in the US and Canada use the 850mhz band. some areas do use 1900mhz, which this phone does have, but apparently not in your area. this phone is a european model i think...

well, they didn't tell you a complete lie. it will work with cingular in the areas where cingular utilizes 1900mhz band, but if you're not getting any service they probably don't use 1900mhz in your area (even so, without 850mhz the service would be mediocre at best). see if they'll take it back, but try to be level-headed about the situation and hopefully they will do the right thing. my recommendation is do not leave feedback until the problem is completely resolved. if they aren't willing to cooperate you might be able to get the problem resolved by disputing it through ebay. good luck.

    what do I need

I don't like to leave negatives (don't think I've ever left one) because I also sell a little on there. I'm pretty sure they'll take it back and I would like to buy one from them that will work in my zip 72501 but I don't want to pay alot because I mainley need it for the bluetooth so it will pair with my wife's car. How can I find out what I need..chuck
