First let me tell you what's happening. I've now been with T-Mobile since June '04 on a 400 minute a month family plan. I've been happy with the service and the Motorola V300's until a few days ago when one of the phones stopped taking a charge. Apparently this is a problem for the V300's. Nevertheless my wife is now without a phone and she now wants a new one. I also would like a new Razr as well.

I've noticed that T-Mobile is offering 2 Razr's for $150, an ok price but I was told that since I'm already a customer I don't qualify for the offer . I can however get the phones for $75 each through Amazon using Verizon, but their plans are too expensive for how much we use our phones. This brings me back to T-Mobile. I can buy a new Razr directly from them for $200, but I wonder if I do this if I can still keep our current 400 minute a month plan that works fine for us. I'm not interested in spending another $10 a month for T-Mobile's current cheapest family plan that includes yet more minutes I'll never use. My wife and I hardly ever make it to the 400 minute mark and we're usually right around 300.

I'm now considering just buying an unlocked Razr off Ebay and using the T-Mobile to go plan. Will I be able to keep my old T-Mobile number with the pay as you go plan? Do I have to pay an activation fee for a pay as you go plan? Can I just pull the sim card from my current phone and put it in the new Razr?

I've been thinking about all my options so much over the past few days I can't think anymore. I guess I just need a second opinion. Thanks in advance and great forum btw

yes, u can buy a new phone for 200 AND keep your original plan, nothing SHOULD change. just stress the fact that you want everything on your account left ALONE. no, i dont think u can keep ur old number IF you are plannin on buying a new phone and planning on getting a to go phone. You can use ur old sim card and put it in ur new phone BUT as far as phone numbers go, ull need a new one. ( AS FAR AS I KNOW, I COULD BE WRONG ) but i myself asked this question in advance, before i had bought my sidekick. The rep informed me that if i got a prepaid phone, it would come with a new sim card * that u can use ur old sim card, just put it in the new phone * and the new phone has to be activated with a new number. I dont know why that is OR if this information is even correct, the way he explained it, he sounded right and didnt seem as if he were lyin or just trying to shut me up. ( i tend to ASK ALOT of questions before buying a phone and plan* lol..so anyways.. when do ur contract end? i wish i could help u out with a phone, i have many phones, just none are for tmobile! =( im sorry. i would just buy the motorola razors for 200 a peice, but thats just me. i paid 450.00 for a sanyo 9000, cause i was an exsisting customer with sprint, and new customers only paid 199.00 AND LESS for it! ive paid full price for over 5 phones in the past few months. =) so, in my opinion, its worth the 200 dollars, cause u get a new phone that u LIKE, and then you can also apply for insurance so if anything goes wrong, ull be allset!! PLUS ull have the warranty... i defiantely think its worth it to buy a new phone for 200.00

    Hello kbohip,

I'd love to clear up a few of your concerns. Yes, you can purchase the motorola Razr. At $200, sounds like the price w/ a 1 year contract extension. You may want to double check if you can get a 2 year contract extension, that would make the Razr $149.99 instead of $200. The extra $50 discount is nice, however, if your razr gets damaged before the 2 years are up you will end up paying full retail price for a new phone. The pink Razr is more expensive. The pink razr, by the way, does the same exact thing as the silver one except for attract guys.

The 2 motorola razr deal for $149.99 is made possible with (2) $50 mail in rebates. It requires 2 brand new lines of service, minimum 1 year agreement, $35 activation fee per line. The first moto razr is purchased for $200, the 2nd one is purchased for $50.

Also, you can keep your same number and convert it to T-Mobile To-Go. I don't know why Renee thought you couldn't. It will be expensive, however, to get 2 Razr's and do this through a T-Mobile retail store. Check prices through T-Mobile customer care and compare the prices at a retail store. Click on the link in my signature to find the closest real T-Mobile store near you. Corporately owned T-Mobile stores are the ones that show up with a pink "T" inside of a yellow box.

Please post any questions you may have or PM me.

Thanks a lot for the info guys. I went to the Car Toys site tonight and noticed they are doing 2 black Razr's for $-50.00 after rebate! I'll be glad to take them off their hands if they pay me $100 to do it . Best of all is it's only a 1 year contract. The only downside I can see is that it's with Cingular and I've not heard good things about them. My wife works at a place that gives a 15% discount for Cingular service though so I just might do it.

The reason i thought you couldnt was because i always thought that To go phones are seperate from Tmobile. For example, i thought that if i had a plan and wanted to get a prepaid phone with tmobile, that they would have to give me a whole new number. Its good to know that is not the case. Thats good to know, for future reference though. I am sorry for giving false information!! I thought that it wasnt possible just because a plan is different from pre paid, and i thought tmobile has nothing to do with activating a pre paid phone. I know i went prepaid once LOONG ago.. and i had to call an 800 # myself, and then the phone number is already included with the phone, in the box. So from personal experience, thats why i said, it probably wasnt possible. I am sorry. That was long ago, were talkin like 6 years ago, possibly more. I guess theyve upgraded such things... =)

    kbohip,

Before you do anything, you may want to see if you have to sign up directly through your wife's job. It is possible that you may not be able to activate your phones one place, then get the discount somewhere else.

Take, for example UPS employees. UPS employees get a discount on their T-Mobile bill. However, UPS employees have to sign up through their HR department, not at a T-Mobile store or by calling T-Mobile.

It'd be a bummer for me to see you leave T-Mobile, again, ask any questions you may have.
