What is the best HIGH RESOLUTION combined PDA/mobile phone?

I used that. I agree, quite useful.

I didn't see any mention of the IPAQ, which I have been considering
because I want to deal with Word & Excel attachments, possibly editing
before replying, while on the move. Is that because the IPAQs are
'clones' of the ones he has mentioned, or are they not clones, but
merely not in his table?

I was also considering FujitsuSiemens pocket loox. Is that a clone of
anything? (In fact, do you know of a good list of 'clones'?)

There are plenty of devices out there, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm,
than can do that actually, either via a built-in office suite or a third
party one. My Nokia E61 came with a full blown Office suite that lets me
view, create and edit MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Not that
fast or practical to use but it already served me well on a few occasions.

No, i don't think that these devices have "clones". Clones are usually HTC
devices rebranded by network operators (O2, Orange, T-Mobile...) or
companies such as i-mate or QTech. HP and Futjitsu only sell their devices
under their own names I believe. The grid doesn't contain each and every
device on the market but only a selection of them since there are far to
many devices out there to make them all fit in one grid. And i suppose that
it would be a far too daunting job to update such a grid with all the
devices available.

Hi, Have you seen Nokia 6270?

It is the best high resolution but it is not PDA phone.

2 mega pixel camera and one can take photograps with 1600x1200
resolution

it doesn't have a querty keyboard...

I'm not much interested in camera funcionality.
This is a *business* phone I need, not a toy!

What I want is a good clear CALENDAR - so that I can read everything
this week on one screen. Hence the need for a high res SCREEN!

A Querty keyboard is pretty much essential too...

Hi Ship, have you checked out the Nokia e70? It runs the same software
as the e61 and has a smaller but higher resolution screen (352x416
pixels). It also has a full qwerty keyboard which folds down to a
normal candy bar phone size. It's not very pretty but very functional.

Me neither - that's why I don't own one.

Agreed.
Unfortunately for you, it's the only phone with a high-resolution screen. If you
aren't willing to put up with it's size, then you're out of luck.

Beware when comparing resolutions though. The E70, just as the E60, N80 and
other S60 phones, has a "double resolution" screen. A common misconception
is to assume that since it's got 4 times more pixels than previous 176x208
models such as the N70, it's going to have a much larger (4 times larger)
screen real estate . This is actually wrong. While it has a slighly larger
screen real estate, most of these extra pixels are not used to display more
information on the screen but to make fonts and icons appear smoother, less
edgy. So everything looks beautiful but the screen is still a "small"
screen no able to display that much more information at a time than
previous 208x176 models.

On the other side, the E61 has a "normal" resolution screen so even though
at 320x240 it effectively has a smaller resolution than the E70, it can
actually show a whole lot more info at a time than the E70 (but text and
icons appear as they did on the previous models, not as nice and smooth as
on the double resolution models). These "double resolution" screens have
now been dropped by Nokia so for future devices it won't be as confusing.

Note that this also applies to the JASJAR/MDA Pro/Whatever. Even though
it's got a 640x480 screen, it doesn't really display more on the screen
than a 320x240 PPC device.

Cameras have an amazing number of applications within business from
trasmitting images of part failures to pictures of new and important
contacts, to images of presentation boards, to etc, etc... that's not
what the vendors are focusing on, but they should... and they should
make the lenses focusable to get sharp images of small parts.

Yes that's a VERY interesting one - though it still looks to me
like the display itself will be pretty hard to read at that physical
size!

(Plus it's not clear from the photo on the site whether the
screen rotates when you open the wings up!)

I was intrigued to see that when I visited an big newspaper's office
today
that a camera took my photo, and it was instantly printed onto my
visitor pass. ...Routine as pie!

Not a very super quality photo - but pretty good and very clearly it
was I
on the albeit thumbnail size photo.

Good God - the b*st*rds - I'm glad you told me that!
So does that mean that in practice that NOTHING gives you much more
than
320x240 resolution when it comes to displaying text ??

Nothing that fits into a pocket that is...!

I still think the clam-shell is the obvious way to go, design-wise.
It's such a shame the manufacturers keep getting distracted
with flip lids and gull wings etc.
