flashed firmware N70 on Orange

Okay, so I have an N70 out of contract which I have just unlocked. I
figured now it's out of warranty there is nothing to stop me updating
the firmware and removing the awful Orange home screen!

Downloaded the updater from Nokia and it all went smoothly and I now
have the latest firmware on my phone. I disabled the home screen, the
phone re-booted and it was gone... HURRAH I thought..... for a while.
However, if I turn off the phone (which I do every night) when it
switches on again the damn Orange home screen is back! I have to go into
the settings and disable it, re-boot the phone and it's gone again. But
this is quite a hassle every time you turn the phone on.

Is there not any way of permanently removing the Orange branding? It's
being used on O2 now anyway, why does the Orange stuff still remain even
after flashing the firmware? Why do networks have to mess with the
phones in the first place? Nokia spend a fortune developing their GUIs
to work with the phone, why does some chump at Orange think they can do
a better job than the professionals?

If you just updated with the Nokia update you may need to change your
phone code so the update thinks it's a generic Nokia instead of an
Orange one.
