I was hoping to install TomTom 5 or TomTom 6 on my Vodafone badged
Samsung Omnia but there's a delay in getting access to GPS on it.
Vodafone say they'll have a fix in 'a few weeks, but it's definitely
    coming'.

Anyone got TomTom working on another iteration of the Omnia and able to
    confirm that it works?

    TIA

A delay when starting tomtom do you mean? How long a delay are we
    talking about?

No, a delay in getting GPS working.

    Apparently, TomTom 6 doesn't install.
TomTom 7.45 ripped from an HTC Diamond does, but of course is then
    pirate.

Garmin software will work fine after install.
IGuidance 08 and Destinator latest versions work after install
TomTom 7.45 in most cases requires either e/agps enabled but that uses
data connection) or a port splitter to be installed to get a lock.
One build of the TomTom 7 apparently works without problem and the later
roms don't have any issues with it, but 6 is still a no go.

Shame as I want an Omnia to replace my HTC Trinity, as I might need to
buy destinator instead of TomTom. I'll still get it though.

When I was looking at Vodafone for one, in store, they said "no, no
problems with TomTom that we have heard of, and we have sold loads".

Hmm, wonder if that is typical sales advisor bull then.

After many hours of trial and error, TTN 5 will install and run but
adding a voice by loading and then clicking on the relevant .CAB file
usually stops it working. I say usually because I've had Jane tell me to
'turn around' but now she seems to have gone silent...

Vodafone only added it to their range on the 24th. I called them on
27th(?) and Technical Support told me that GPS wasn't working yet but it
would be in the 'next few weeks'.

They are adding their own app, but it isn't ready yet.
I imagine it will be an online chargeable service like the orange one
    they trialed.

It might go something like this:

Vodafone: "Okay, we'll buy 50,00 Omnia's but we don't want the GPS to
work with anything other an application which we will supply you with"

Samsung: "No problem, that we be £1 million please, we'll deliver them
    next week"

    Vodafone: "thank you".

CAN NOT ALIGN THE SCREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right now on the phone with vodafone to get the confirmation, the
    handset will be replaced.
How frustrating that is... Was so happy to see the courier and now

Lets see what happens next... still on hold

This took a long time for the green screen to disappear and then the
alignment to start. Successive 'positions' were also slow to appear. But
    it worked in the end.

On the trinity, Orange turned off the GPS for private customers but
    enabled it for business customers.

A simple registry change sorted that.

It isn't that they are blocking it in this case, it is that they aren't
supplying any. The non voda version comes with googlemaps gps app.

Vodas version, like Oranges one uses online mapping, and after the trial
    will be payable subscription based.

TomTom, Destinator, CoPilot and Garmin only cost the purchase price.
Upside, only one price to buy and use. Downside is you don't get
uptodate maps as often as the online service.

The problem that TomTom doesn't like the standard hardware and gps com
ports whereas the others seem to work fine.

The issue is TomTom seems to only work with version 7.45 which is a
pirate hack of HTC Touch diamond package. And then the actual quality of
the experience appears to be dependant on the exact Rom version and
    exact pirate rip installed.

Re: Samsung i900 Omnia and GPS

    Spoke to vadofone yesterday...
Problem with the navigation they have is that they are using not only
vodafone software and gps reciever but also network. It cost 7 pound
    per month.
There is no restictions with other software, although they said that
onece you instal other software on Omnia you loose warranty if
something goes wrong with the phone which is kind of wired as this is
why omnia works on windows... to put new applications on it.

Waiting for another handset... hope to be able to align the screen
    this time... :/

Have a question... applications like igo etc should be put on sd card
and installed from there. Is there any other way to do this in omnia
as the internal memory is quite big anyway?

They are talking out of their arse unless they put it into print
    somewhere.
And most software installs on the memory card to function properly, I'd
like to see them enforce it.

Might be interesting if they try to invalidate the warrenty if you
"install" mp3s or movies onto the phone.

Standard ill-informed salesperson talk to try and frighten you into
using thier product. Installing applications will have no effect on the
    warranty.
