NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or is otherwise unresponsive, you might be able to fix these problems with a factory reset.

WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data stored on the handset’s internal memory will be deleted, including contacts, ringtones and other media files, downloaded content, apps etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you master reset the device, you can visit this thread for instructions on backing up personal data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Tap “Backup & reset
  3. Tap “Factory data reset
  4. Make sure “Erase SD Card” is disabled to avoid erasing SD card data
  5. Tap “Reset phone
  6. Assuming your phone is lock screen-protected, enter the necessary PIN / password to proceed
  7. Tap “Erase everything

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you’ve finished factory resetting your phone, you should verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Scroll down to, and tap “About phone
  4. Tap “System updates” and follow the on-screen instructions to download and install updates if available
