    help is on the way

after you edit the sound that you want, you can open it up in windows media player. when you are playing the file, go to file, then highlight save media as..., and then you'll come up with a box as to where you will save your file. on the name of the file just simply type ".mid" (disregard the quotes) and the file will convert into a midi file. i hope this helps you guys in the future.

help is on the way, partII

    p.s.
make sure your filename looks something like this

    mymusic.mid

you have to add the ".mid" extension to your filename.
    just giving you more clarification

you cannot convert a mp3 to midi. the only thing u can do is change the file extension like blade said. this basically tricks the phone into thinking its a midi (stupid LG)

in the end the mp3 is still and mp3, not a midi. changing the extension does not make it a midi. the best way i can try to explain this is like if if you change the mp3 to a .avi. just because you do it doesnt mean the mp3 is now a movie file

bottom line- you cannot convert an mp3 to a midi. dont let people give you the wrong idea. there are programs out there that claim they can but dont get the job done. technologys not that far along yet

and if u find a way to convert an mp3 to a polyphonic midi, take up Graeme's challenge for $100 (not cpf, the real stuff)

    A LITTLE MORE HELP

PERSONALLY, THATS NOT THE BEST WAY TO HAVE A RINGTONE IMPORTED INTO YOUR PHONE. THE EMAIL ATTACHMENT WILL ONLY ALLOW YOU TO SAVE YOUR SOUND IF IT IS UNDER 30KB. THE BEST WAY TO PUT SONGS INTO YOUR PHONE IS TO BUY A DATA CABLE, THROUGH VERIZON WIRELESS STORE OR THROUGH RADIO SHACK (NOTE: VERIZON WIRELESS IS MORE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE ITS A DIRECT PRODUCT FROM VERIZON, RADIO SHACK HAS A THIRD PARTY CABLE THAT I HEAR WORKS JUST AS WELL.) AFTER GETTING THE DATA CABLE, DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM CALLED BITPIM 7 TEST VERSION 8 ( I HAVEN'T TRIED TEST VERSION 9 YET). THE PROGRAM HAS A NICE USER FRIENDLY INTERFACE AND IS PRETTY MUCH SELF EXPLANATORY. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT

If you cannot convert an mp3 to a midi, how does the phone play the file? I guess it has a midi player program in the phone, so how does it decipher the .mp3 format?

Has anyone done this and had it work?

the phones software has the ability to play mp3 ringtones & midi ringtones. somewhere the programmers messed up and didnt allow the phone to accept the .mp3 extension, even though they programmed the "internal media player" to allow mp3 playback

theres a difference between converting and changing. change the extension of an .mpeg to .mid... that doesnt convert the file to a midi. its still a movie file

i'm just statin the truth. i can understand the entire confusion, but u can blame LG for that. if they had simply double-checked their programming we wouldnt have this mixup

i dont know if this has been said yet or not..dont feel like reading all the posts.. but anyway.. all u have to do is have bitpim opened and drag a mp3 into the ringer part and it automatically converts the mp3 into a .mid

the setting that works for me is.. 25 seconds or less..
    16kHz/32kbps/Mono
