    Hello Everyone,

I have a Verizon LG VX6000 that has stopped working at all. I took it to the local Verizon store for service but they said that since the moisture indicator on the battery was red the phone was not repairable and I'd have to buy another one at the full retail price. I'm really unhappy about that but that's another story...

The phone was never submersed but did get a little damp during a recent rain storm.

    Here's my question:

When the battery gets wet and the red moisture indicator comes on does it also blow a "fuse" which prevents the battery from outputting power? I ask because I was able to measure about 4 VDC at the battery's charger contacts but not at the phone side contacts. Could it be that just the battery is bad?

Any advice or additional information on the moisture indicator is appreciated!

    Don

Thanks Brett but the VX6000 won't go on the charger without the battery, at least I can't see how.

I did get a new battery but that isn't the problem. The phone is apparently fried.

I've ordered a new one through eBay since the robbers at Verizon wouldn't repair or exchange it. The only option they gave me was to pay full retail price for a new one. I have 3 cell phones, DSL, local and long distance through Verizon but they wouldn't give me the slightest break on getting the broken phone replaced. What a way to treat a good customer. I'm very disappointed in them.

Anyway, I bought a new one on good old eBay and all is well now.

    Thanks for your help.

Did you have Insurance on the phone? If you didnt then its not VZW's fault that you broke your phone.

I undestand about being a good customer, but if VZW gave customer's breaks on brand new phones all the time because of incidents like this then they would be out a lot of money.

I agree with you though, they could of offered you say 50$ off but they would of wanted to extend your contract...

    Battery Moisture Indicator

I did actually drop my phone in the water and it was still working fine. For the hell of it, I went into the store to tell them that my phone wasn't working right (to see if they would give me a complete new phone). They replaced the phone, but would not replace the battery.

I would suggest trying 1 or 2 more Verizon stores as some Tech people may be more forgiving. I went to one store and they refused to replace it. Went to another store and had no problems.

The same thing happened to me but my phone was still working. The phone fell out of my hand, and the screen exploded internally. I went to go get a replacement at 1 Verizon but left on a custom faceplate, they said if I go home, change the faceplate & come back they'll replace it for $54, and I had no insurance. Then I went home and replaced the faceplate, and brought it to a closer Verizon store, and they said they can't do anything. I went back to the first one, and they replaced it and transferred the numbers for free. I think the whole "moisture indicator" thing is bull****, because the people behind me had the same exact thing, with a working phone...

I totally disagree I think that the indicator is never wrong!!! There are times when you phone can be moisture damaged and the indicator may never smear or get red but I have never had a case where the indicator was wrong and I see tons of phones everyday.

I have also got my phone wet while it was in friends bag and his water container leaked. It got inside the battery and the indicator went purple/red. The phone would not turn on and i was very angry. I put it on the charger and thought maybe the battery is just flat. It began to charge I tryed to turn on the phone, and it starts up, then it comes up with car kit in the ringer type thing on the main screem where it usually says vib-high. It works ok but no sound because it thinks it is plugged into a car kit. I take it off the charger and it wont turn on, so maybe the battery has had it or something. What would anyone else reccomend before taking it to the dealer. It is currently drying in the sun.

    Cell phone = electronic
Electronics + water = corrosion = non working

The only hope is to if you know your phone got wet at all is to litterally take the battery off imediatly and let dry for about 48 hours. Most of the time this doesn't even work.

Anybody ever wonder why their battery terminals on the car loose power...moisture has gotten on them and corroded the connection...same things happens in cell phones.
