Ummm.....let's see, an old free 3200 that none of us are using, or my personal 8000 worth at least $15. What do you think I am...made of money? That's $15 whole dollars.

Temporary Car Kit Help?
I posted this on another board...this seemed to work for me at least for now. I've got the small round thing with like "x" things on it...and I assume that tells me that I have water damage. I didn't even drop it in water...it was in my pocket, and I got caught in the middle of a downpour. LG is not my friend right now. Anyhow, I'm letting it dry out right now, but I got it to work before I started drying out by following the steps I found on another site. Dunno if it'll work permanently, but it got my phone working for now. Hope it helps!
#1) press soft key for menu
#2) then press 0
#3) you'll have a service code prompt, type 000000
#4) then type 2 (it should be field tests)
#5) then type 4 (clear errors)
#6) choose yes for clear errors
#7) press clear once
#8) type 1 (Service Prg)
#9) choose ok soft button (in the middle) all the way through until the end. Then the phone will reset.
About half way through the tests, my phone started making noise (keypad beeps).

Yes that will reset the message you get on the screen but not the fact that the phone has water damage, it eventually goes back into car kit mode.

It's important to remember that getting your phone wet will not always trigger the water damage indicator stickers (there are 2 stickers in an LG phone, one on the phone and one on the battery).
Also, to enter the field testing screen you have to press "menu", "0 (zero)", then "000000 (all zeroes)"LG VX9900 (enV)

Re: how to turn off "car kit" mode
From what you should have read, there is no fixing the "car kit" mode. Your phone has been damaged and will probably need replacing.

Re: how to turn off "car kit" mode
Try plugging in a headset or if you have a car kit, plug it in and out a few time, but it does sound like its done for.
If it's not water damaged take it back to the store you bought it at.
Most will exchange it under 30 days.
If its over that find a repair center and they should exchange it via in-store or mail.
Hope you had insurance!

Re: how to turn off "car kit" mode
really odd that it does that when exposed to liquid. Almost all of my phones get exposed to liquid.

Re: how to turn off "car kit" mode
From what I can discern: "car kit" mode is not addressable/accessible from any settings/options avail on keypad. Mode apparently engaged by jack that car kit would plug into- I dried this phone out with hair dryer and it works once more. Thanks guys for giving me ideas about the moisture in cell phone.

Re: how to turn off "car kit" mode
My wife has dropped her LG VX8300 into soup. And a milkshake. And a Coke. Each time the "car kit" message comes up, and the sound stops working. Each time I disassemble the phone completely, wipe *everything* with acetone, and reassemble. I do this immediately to head off corrosion issues. I've gotten quite good at the disassembly-reassembly process, but it requires patience and a little mechanical intuition (plus a willingness to void the warranty). After I reassemble the phone, the "car kit" message is gone.
In my experience, if you act quickly, the phone can be saved.
