LG 8700 Ringtone Help

So first of hello, I'm new here so there might be something small and stupid that's causing me problems. So anyways, I'm trying to get a custom ringtone onto my phone. Like I said in the title it's an LG 8700 and my service provider is Telus (from what I read on their site I'm thinking this might be my problem). So far I've tried two of the ways people have suggested on these forums but with no success. I've used Bitpim and have gotten it to detect my phone on the usb as an LG VX-9900 (env) so I know it's working (and I did change it to the correct phone after). I've also tried adding it as a sound on an sd card by making it smaller than 350kb and sending it to myself but I cannot save it as a ringtone (I think this is telus' fault). Any help would be much appreciated.
