LG Rumor Problems

So, to start with - I know I need to get a new phone, but that's not going to happen for at least a month, so here's my problem:
Up to yesterday, my rumor worked fine. Never a problem. My battery completely drained yesterday and when I got home, I put it on to charge and went to sleep as I always do. Today I woke up, took it off the charger and went to using as normal. Then, when I slide it shut the screen went white. I shut it off and restarted it. The screen will flash from normal to white and continually restart itself until it eventually goes to normal. If I leave the slide up, the phone works fine. As soon as I slide it, the process starts again.
Is this an overcharging issue? Or is this associated with the flex cable issues? Or is this something entirely different.

hrm, try taking the battery out and resetting the phone.

I found the problem - the flex cord has a worn spot in it. :-/
