Text To Speech
Enabling Text To Speech:
- While viewing the home screen, tap "All apps"
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "System", tap "Accessibility"
- Tap "TalkBack"
- Move the "TalkBack" slider and set it to "ON"
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up "TalkBack"
Disabling Text to Speech:
- Tap the "All apps" icon located on the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "System", tap "Accessibility"
- Tap "TalkBack" and move the slider associated with it to "OFF"
Text to Speech Settings:
Text to speech features a handful of settings that you may find useful. Here is a guide to access and set the general settings of this feature, such as changing the language or the speech rate.
- While viewing any of the home screens, tap "All apps"
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "Personal", tap "Language & input"
- Tap "Text-to-speech" under "Speech"
- Under "General", you can adjust the following:
- Speech rate: there are nine speeds, starting off with "very slow" and going up to "fastest"
- Listen to an example (tap to listen)
- Default language status (tap to change the default language)
- Tap the "Settings" icon to change the following settings:
- Language: You can select between: English (UK), English (US), French, German, Italian, Korean, Spanish
- Settings for Google Text To Speech Engine – Auto update voices (On / Off); Update voices over Wi-Fi only (On / Off) – View Open Source Licenses (tap to view)
- Install voice data
Voice Commands
Opening an Application Using Voice Commands:
- To open an app such as "messaging" using your voice, swipe up from the "Home" button to open "Google Now"
- Speak a command, such as "Open Messaging"
Voice Dial a Contact:
- To voice dial a contact, swipe up from the "Home" button to access "Google Now"
- Say "Call X", where "X" is the desired contact's name
Writing a Text Message (SMS) Using Voice Commands:
- From any of the home screens, say "OK Google"
- Say "Write a text message"
- Tap "edit message" to edit the details
- When ready to send, say "Send message" or simply tap the "Send >" icon
Enabling / Disabling Google Now:
- While on the home screen, tap and hold an empty space
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap the "On / Off" associated with "Google Now" in order to enable or disable this feature. When enabling Google Now, you may be prompted with a new screen. If so, tap "Yes, I'm In"
