Re: Installing Linux as a second operating system
I'd recommend using Ubuntu (Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu)
Download and run the live cd, and there is a full graphic installer, walks you through partitioning, and the whole job, any problems post back here.

I currently use Ubuntu and I highly recommend it as well, it is very user friendly and the community has always been responsive to my needs.

Re: Installing Linux as a second operating system
Ubuntu seems to be the Linux distro of choice these days. Their pledge is that Ubuntu will always be free. You can either download it, or ask them to ship it to you on CD. I don't know if they still ship it this way, but they used to include a two-disk set: one an installation disk and the other a "live" disk that you could run directly from your CD or DVD drive (i.e., you get a chance to "kick the tires" first). You might want to go to the Ubuntu website. Check it out here: Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu
If you have enough hard drive space (and you probably do), you can create a separate partition, and set up a dual-boot system with Windows and Linux. Do a Google search for "dual-boot" and find instructions for how to set it up.

This discussion is very outdated, but... Now it’s best for a beginner to use Ubuntu, because it’s easiest to find information if something goes wrong.
In the days when this topic was started, I used OpenSuse.

Hi Been!
There can be loads of possible reasons. I can assume that there is something wrong with wordpress plugins under linux. I would advise you to move to cloud solutions like this one https://voximplant.com/messaging. I deal with makeup delivery in the Netherlands. When I switched to Voximplant I forgot what a communication problem generally is
