I hate being strong-arm by wireless companies, or at least the feeling of it, but after the DROID was explain to me why the data plan is necessary, i now understand why the data plan is what makes the phone, it supports the function and capabilities of the DROID.

The DROID has a complex operating sytem called Dalvik JVMs/linux, i trying to put together an article about it and post it... @http://SeeMyBlog.tk/

After both phones were explain and demonstrated, i could not get the eris.

Re: So who has the Droid already?

Ok, broke down and got one as I can use many of its features. Here are my thoughts on it after a day of use:

    Comes with 16GB standard...SWEET!

Feels like a solid phone. I don't mind a little extra weight. Not like it weighs a ton or anything.

Unfortunately, no multi-touch in the OS...yet. I figure someone will find a way to enable it before long. That's one of the great things about Android...it's open. I already found one application which has it enabled (a photo editor) so I know it can be done.

Trying to figure out a way to enable different sounds for different types of notifications. The OS provides all kinds of notifications but, from what I can find, they only have one sound for all notifications. Gets confusing.

The OS certainly isn't as intuitive as the iPhone/iPod OS but it's not bad either. After playing with it for a couple of minutes, I was navigating like I'd been doing it for months.

It's not as pretty as an iPhone/iPod either. But it's not ugly either--I can deal with that.

The screen is 10x better than an iPhone/iPod. It looks awesome and it's even bigger than the screen on the iPhone/iPod.

It is quite snappy with its response. No lag in doing much of anything on the phone. The network speeds have been quite good as well.

Lots of apps available for download. Haven't really had a problem finding anything I might need at the moment, however, the Marketplace (their app store) doesn't feel as full as the App store on an iPhone/iPod. I'm sure this will come in time and it reminds of the the arguments against using a Mac 10 years ago when people would say there were no apps for the Mac (my how things have changed...). Sort of the same argument here right now, there seem to be plenty of the most popular-types of apps available but there will be some specialty apps not available yet. The difference here is, they WILL become available because, like it or not, Android will be a very popular OS--popular enough for people to write code for...

It's certainly no iPhone/iPod and I cringe when I read about people comparing the two (although we can all understand why). It's an incredibly functional device just like the iPhone. It is, however, VERY different and will appeal to different people. As I've told friends, if Verizon had an iPhone available, I'd have had one. But they don't and won't for quite some time so this is my alternative. It's quite a good alternative, too.

In short, I REALLY like the Moto Droid so far...

Re: So who has the Droid already?

I just got mine today. first thought before even touching it was "YESSSSS!!!"

First thought after turning it on was "Ummm... now what do I do?" lool

It seems sooo complicated right now but I'm determined to give myself time to get to know it and surf these forums on a regular basis to help speed up the knowledge process. I had a Samsung Rogue up until this past Sunday and it was easier to use and figure out but it had soo many issues and bugs I had to get rid of it. But again, it was easier to figure out.

I'm giving the droid time to fully impress me. Somehow, someway, I DO KNOW that in my hands is something truly powerful and amazing but I'm still in the ignorant "...now what do I do?" stage.

I know the feeling. Once you've played with it for a while, you'll have that, "Eureka," moment.

First thing I'd do it hit the Marketplace and see what's there. Very cool apps there for sure. Get your contacts loaded from your other phone and start texting/calling/emailing. Use the browser. You'll get it in no time...

Re: So who has the Droid already?

Picked mine up wednesday and am quite impressed. I purchased the TVpacakge called Jetflicks and it works very well for those that want streaming TV shows (including some Showtime and HBO shows). There will be a sub fee starting in January.

BTW I am a 16 year customer with ATT so this was a big change for me.
