    Re: Wireless sync

the sync program stores email and contacts on the verizon server so when I got a new phone I could just setup wireless sync and bring all my stuff back. but I've only seen it on windows mobile phones.

    Re: Wireless sync

I just spoke with Verizon tech support for Wireless Sync. Verizon does not control the development of new apps for the Droid. Google is in complete control. I posted an idea for the adoption of Wireless Sync on the Google support page. Please go to Google Product Ideas to vote and add your comments. Google is missing the boat on this option and lots of folks will be returning Droids because of this lack of functionality. Businesses don't use gmail and not all businesses have an exchange server. POP3 users need the ability to push email and sync tasks, notes, calendar, and contacts. Wireless Sync is a great tool for all of us stuck in the middle.

I noticed that with the Eris there is a PC sync option (meant to sync with outlook) built in. It doesn't exist on the Moto Droid, but you can transfer your contacts and sync your calendar with some google made software...

    Re: Wireless sync

You don't need wireless sync with the Droid. I remember seeing some apps in the Marketplace which allow you to sync with Outlook. I don't use Outlook so I can't comment on whether they work well or not.

Well, technically it 'wirelessly syncs' with your e-mail, exchange, facebook, etc.

If you do that, just make sure you use the same GMAIL account on your new phone and it will populate all of your contacts automatically when you first set it up.

    Re: Wireless sync

I've tried a lot of apps to sync data. Bottom line is I have a pop3 mail account and do not wish to delete messages on the pc and on the phone.

    Google missed the boat here.

I'm returning the Droid (it's a cool gadget) and getting a Touch Pro2 (I miss my Wireless Sync). If the Droid ever grows up and becomes a tool for business professionals, I'll be the first to pick one up.

    Re: Wireless sync

Had to do a hard reset on my Droid. I thought I lost all my contacts and pictures that VZW transferred for me. When the phone came back up and I re-authorized the phone the contacts were blank... I have no backup....Placed the phone on charge....came back about 20 mins latter and everything was back. I am guessing that it synced with google...before I did the hard reset and when I logged back onto the phone it synced everything back. Even the apps I installed....
