Re: What complaints do you have so far?

Everytime I make a phone call, or send a text, it seems to open up about 15 different apps. I try and turn them off everytime, but sometimes I forget. I wish it would only open up the one you turn on.
    End quote:

Don't be a slave to your Apps, forget them, the DROID will turn on and off Apps as memory is needed. Apps are the platform that supports the function of the DROID. The fact that you turn them off, and the DROID turns them back on is reason enough to let the DROID run its course.
    ***********
I haven't been able to find a reminder for missed calls either. The green light flashes if I miss a text, or get a voicemail, but if it's just a missed call, I don't get it, unless I turn the phone on, and check.
    End Quote:
This... you should be concerned about, screen illumination and continuous ringtones/sound will kill a battery. The little LED blinking light is a notification indicating your DROID needs attention and a action is pending.

Plus who needs the screen changing when your involved creating a text or email with every notification, your DROID will give a notification sound and the ICON will appear in the status bar and can be checked at your leisure.

You and me both are accustom to our phones acting like car alarms, crazy lighting and noise actions acting uncontrollably... lol. We have to change our phone habits, visually monitoring our phones for the blinking light, and then checking the status bar notifications and scroll the page down.
    *******

I tried to make you not miss the things you miss... lol

    I'm still adjusting

Re: What complaints do you have so far?

Well, you don't really have to worry about shutting down apps, etc. I was feeling the same way when I got it and saw how many apps are open but, after researching it, I realize no need to worry. Android is based on a linux OS and those apps do not use any resources unless actually needed by the phone. Also, if the phone needs the memory, Android will shut down apps not being used in order to free up memory.

On the positive side, when apps are already in memory they open faster making the phone feel faster.

    So don't worry...

Re: What complaints do you have so far?

What would really be cool is an App for VOICE RECOGNITION... SPEECH TO TEXT FOR EMAILS AND TEXTING... i'm mean a good reliable one. It would be nice to speak a text message and hit SEND.

The VOICE COMMAND for google search does a pretty good job, i can't believe they (√erizon) haven't gotten voice recognition/speech to text down to a science yet.

My complaint would be that... SPEECH to TEXT does exist in ways, so why isn't it a function in the DROID, that would of been a great feature and a selling point. Maybe the next new phone will introduce it.

Re: What complaints do you have so far?

I ran into a few more problems I can't seem to figure out.

    1. When I receive a text that's in like a .gif format, or anything with motion, I can't open it. I can see the picture, but until I send it to my e-mail, I can't see what it's doing.

    2. When trying to forwad a text to certain people, I can't find there name when I type it in. I have to go under contacts, and click on the text mess. Makes it so I can't forward anything to them.

If anybody has a setting I can change to fix these, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks

To forward a message in a text... press and hold the message you want to forward, a menu will appear, and then make your selection. The DROID does not support forwarding multiple people, manually typing and adding comas CAN be done... I like this restriction, makes it a lot harder to get SPAM.

But there're is an App you can check-out... Handcent SMS (NEW) v2.9.19 Application for Android | Communication

The DROID does not support gif formats.
checkout the below link... under messaging to support GIF

Re: What complaints do you have so far?

No complaints so far really,,,okay only one...it eats up too much of my time.

I am getting used to the keyboard and I DO use the D pad. The camera will be fixed soon as well as some other issues and I cannot wait until Android 2.1 is released and see what goodies await us next.

I showed some friends the mp4 copy I did of Xmen (I own the DVD) and they were amazed at the quality of the picture. Maybe someday Amazon will have MP4's in 720 by 480 resolution for us to buy and put on our phones. As it is now all one can do is illegally download a movie from the net (a questionable and possibly dangerous practice) or rip a DVD and convert to Mp4.

Re: What complaints do you have so far?

After using the DROID for about two months now my biggest complaint is while i'm in MAPS or any App for that matter, but especially MAPS... the screen should have a lock option. For instances if i'm using Maps/GPS and i touch or handle the DROID the screen is too sensitive and starts opening others Apps/menus, or changing screens... thats annoying.

I wish there was an lock button/option to lock the screen your using/displaying so it can't change until the lock is release. I was using GPS and handed my phone to my wife and by the time she viewed it, the DROID jumped about 3 displays/Apps/screens... i had to back track to the Map/GPS screen.

Maybe even a double-tap option when your in a particular App, so if you handle the DROID it doesn't start opening Apps or changing screens.

Re: What complaints do you have so far?

    I have a complaint...

Remember how the DROID is the device that "does" well, I tried and tried to find a way to simply purchase full length box office hit movies for the DROID...there isn't a real way. With an app called lukluk you can view some movies...but they aren't necessarily new and the selection is poor.

There is another app, mSpot Movies...it allows you to rent movies for a 24-72 hour period, depending on the movie. They also have a few movies that are free of charge for 72 hours. The thing is that I'm not going to pay $5 for a movie for 24 hours and watch it on a small screen. If I wanted to watch the movie that bad, I'd go down to the nearest RedBox and pay $1 and watch it on a full size screen.

I think Google needs something...and app store or something...online that allows users to purchase full length movies. I'd pay $15 for a movie that would be on my phone for life! Originally, it was suspected (before the DROID came out) that the new Amazon MP3 store would also integrate the Amazon Movies on Demand feature, but it didn't.

    ------------------------------

I use a texting app callled Handscent SMS and includes a voice to text option for texting. It's fairly accurate too.

I like the other aspects of this app as well.

I felt the same way, i switch to a Mac from Windows years ago, and from The Dare to the DROID. Having to learn all new phone habits.... and learning the features and how to navigate around a new phone... sucks. I will say as time goes by and your discoveries become habit, using the DROID becomes second nature like all previous owned phones.

My only advice is be PATIENT, and make the necessary ADJUSTMENTS in making new phone habits.

You made two switches, a new Mac and DROID... that should keep you busy for a while...lol
