I just got a Razr V3 today from T-Mobile. The sales guy told me I could set ringtones to MP3s as long as I got a Bluetooth USB Adapter. Is this true? I've been playing with the phone most of the night but haven't figured it out. If this is possible, please list the steps of how it's done. Thanks!

Yes, you need a usb cable with a mini type connector that's fits your Razr and you also need to download Mobile Phone Tools software.
To transfer via Bluetooth you can do so by transfering from another Bluetooth capable phone or connect via Bluetooth to your PC.

Well I did buy a Bluetooth USB Adapter so I figure that should work for transfering the data (MP3). I'm playing with it right now. What bitrate should I use for the MP3s?

Well that's why you need to used MPT, once you edit them it will automatically change the bitrate for you.

Software. I linked up through the Bluetooth USB adapter and tranferred an MP3 just to test it. IT WORKED! The file is 1829kb 224 kbps. Is this too large?

Please recommend some good (hopefully FREE) software to edit MP3s and convert the bitrate for ringtones. I'd like to set different songs for different contacts so I'm guessing the file sizes should remain small. I think I have about 20 seconds before the voice mail kicks in...

I guess what I really need is software that will convert the bitrate as well as let me select sections of the song for a ringtone...

    Hey sdsurfer,

Try Wavepad! I've been using it for a while and it's easy and works great (it's also free)! I've made over 1000 mp3 ringtones with it

I'll PM you the link for where to get it and a quick tutorial.
