I just got my mobile phone tools cd and when it was trying to detect my phone it said it hadn't found it so i did it manually(not sure if i did it right). after that it opened up and all it does is say initializing. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Same thing happened to me but I may have forgotten how I did it right. When its time to do it manually the files/dlls/whatever might ber found in C:/Program Files/mobile phone tools/Inf ...or somewhere aound there I hope! Guess you did that already? MPT is so neanderthal...How backward can Motorola get? All they want is to sell you the phone.

Try restarting the program and don't connect your phone until instructed to do so....you may also try rebooting your PC.

After I rebooted, it finally recognized mine. I made the mistake of plugging the phone in before the program was installed and then had to do it manually.

Exactly, i see this mistake happening very often as well alot of MPT users posting the same question over and over because of this...

will the usb cord work with the razr or does it only work with bt?

The USB cable is used if you don't want to connect via Bluetooth, i've found that using the cable is more efficient for me.

does it make a difference if it's the black razr? what modem would i use? i have a cable modem but it only did not give me an error when i chose the 56k modem?

i now got connected but when i try to transfer a file it says unable to communicate to mobile phone. any solutions? and it is connected and my phone is on.

unplug the phone and start the software again, wait until it promts you to connect the phone.

i just had this problem.. when it says initializing, click menu > setup > and run live update, it takes a few minutes but i did this and then everything worked fine. good luck
