My wife's RAZR (thru Cingular) occasionally will pop up the message "check SIM". The phone doesn't send or receive calls with the message up. Usually to fix it I turn the phone off and turn it back on.

Is this a problem with the phone or the SIM card? I am thinking of taking the phone into Cingular to look at it. I got a RAZR the same day as my wife and it hasn't had this problem.

    Re: RAZR check SIM problem

May mean that the sim is not sitting in it's slot and making good contact with the metal contacts inside the phone.

Try taking a CLEAN eraser and LIGHTLY rubbing the contacts in the SIM slot and the back of the SIM. blow/wipe off any eraser crumbs and re-insert the SIM, and make sure if there is any type retainer to keep the SIM in place, that slid, clamped or latched into place.

Some times if the phone is dropped or bumped hard enough, it can jar the SIM just enough to where it does not make good contact. If it's a faulty SIM, or the contacts, are slighy bent or worn, this might happen more often.
