I have searched around for a day or so and can't find any help with this. I got a razr and every so often when I open the phone it will say insert sim and I have to turn the phone off pull the battery and then pull the sim card then put it back together. It didn't bother me too much because it worked fine right after that. However today on my way home from work I was in the middle of a conversation and the phone call just dropped. I looked at my phone and it said insert sim again. So I done the process over again. Well after 10 times now it still says insert sim and when I put my sim in a nokia 6102 it works just fine. Any suggestions? THanks

Sorry I can't answer your question, but how come my Razr doesn't have a sim card or even a slot for one?

This is called "threadjacking" and it's considered rude to try and change the topic on someone else's unanswered thread. CDMA phones like Verizon and Alltel don't have SIM cards, they are a different technology.

I'm just guessing here, but if I were you I might try to blow out the SIM slot with some compressed air and if the slot is designed in a way you can reach the connectors, I'd wipe them GENTLY with a soft, lint-free dustcloth. If that doesn't help the phone might be destined for the junk heap. Good luck...

I wasn't trying to be rude or change the topic.. I just figured that someone would read the first post and answer it before even looking at mine. But I see what you mean now.. it was rude, sorry.

No problem, everyone's a newbie once and I was even warned about threadjacking when I was new here. I tried to answer both of your questions, even though Motorola isn't really my "department". If anyone else has something to add to Pelphrey's topic, please feel free to do so!

    Re: Razr "Insert Sim" Issue

Yeah I took my sim card out and just blew in the phone. I really didn't think compressed air was a good option. I thought it was because my phone wasn't unlocked for cingular, but it worked fine for over a week plus when you turn the phone on and off the cingular logo displays. However on my phone VS my buddies razr his says cingular on the back part of the phone and mine doesn't. Mine also has a tag under the battery that says made in Germany. I dont know if that would have anything to do with it. However I can't complain too much. I got it from a buddy who bought it 7-8 months ago and used it for 3 months and switched to sprint. He owes me money and I deducted 50 bucks from his debts for the phone.

I am currently job hunting and I don't want this to happen during the day. I really don't want to miss an important phone call. And in most cases if a phone goes straight to voice mail it seems like people assume you are avoiding calls. So I am reading up on it and trying to make sure it doesn't happen again.

It happened twice tonight while I was talking the call would drop and the phone would simply say "insert sim". I got a sim card from my buddy and done a "master reset" and knock on wood so far so good.

Thanks for the tip though. I will try this tomorrow.

    Re: Razr "Insert Sim" Issue

I am having almost the same problem. 2 days ago my razr said check sim. I took it out and put it back in. It worked for about 10 min the dropped a call and now all it shows it "insert Sim"

I have tried blowing it out, cleaning it and even took it to the ATT store. They put a new sim card in with no sucess. Their only suggestion was to goto a 3rd party store and let them crack it open to see if everything is connected.

I have used this phone for the last 1 1/2 yrs with no problems. I am guessing it is now trash. I was getting ready to upgrade so it is not a huge issue however all of my contacts are stored on the phone, is there any way I can get them off?

When I power on the phone, it will not let me get past the insert sim message.

    Thanks, Wes

iPods are versatile devices. Did you know, for example, that you can use your iPod as an alarm clock? In this how-to, MacMost.com's Gary Rosenzweig looks at 10 things you can do with your standard 5G, 5.5G or iPod Classic other than playing music.
use it to transport any type of file from place to place. most people only access an ipod with itunes. going through mycomputer and viewing the files allows you to save files in different locations than before. and also allows more safe locations. using itunes to save files to your ipod only allows music, video and audio, but with this you can save text, boot files, any any other kind of file you need. very useful for computer programers and people who repair computers when they are broken.

Same problem here. Phone worked fine for 2+ years, then one day it said "Insert SIM". R/R SIM, and all was well. A couple of days later it did it again. Now, after getting gradually worse over the course of a week or so, it says that pretty much all the time.

Occasionally it will work, but it's a question of "when", not "if", it will crap out again -- usually in less than an hour.

I have tools and experience with fine-pitch SMT soldering etc, so I opened up the phone and reheated the solder connections for the SIM socket -- no help. At this point I'm stuck... It's not the SIM (my SIM works fine in other phones, and other SIMs don't work in this phone). It's not the SIM socket either -- I cleaned the contacts and resoldered.

I've seen a "seem edit" that allows the phone to work without a SIM but (no surprise) not for calls. So not useful to me.

Looks like I can buy a replacement V3xx for about $80 on eBay. Is that my best bet?

This is going to sound rediculous, but I think it's simply a matter of bad design on the part of where the SIM card goes in. I discovered by playing with it a little that if i stuffed the SIM card all the way down to the bottom of where it's designed to go, it wouldn't connect right and would pull up with the "Insert SIM" message, but if I just put it in there up to the line, not quite all the way in, it lined up fine. I think the phones that are having a problem are just having the SIM cards jostle too far down...

I had the same Insert SIM problem with my phone.

I just tried this advice, and pushed the sim card UP, touching the battery, and it's working just fine so far.
