    So I just picked up my Razr today. I think its the second generation-its the black one. I know its not the new new one though. If that helps.

    I was re-directed to this forum from google, when I was searching for Chev Chelios' ringtone from the movie crank. I downloaded it and its not on my desktop in Mp3 format. I have a USB cable that I use for my Mp3 player, and it works with my Razr too.

    So my questions are;

    How do I connect the phone to my computer? And, How would I get the ringtone from my desktop, to my phone?

    I saw some mention about converting the file, but all I have is WMP.

    Any help is appreciated and if this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it.

    You have to connect your phone to your computer via USB cord and a Motorola program designed to transfer stuff to and from your phone. You can get the USB and program usually on-line just checkout some of the various cell phone accessory shops. Or check out your local cell phone store

    Expect to spend $20 - $70

    The porgram mentioned by Billiardnut is called Motorola Phone Tools. You can find it at Amazon.com for around $10.00, or less without the USB cable it usually comer bundled with (which you already have)

    It's a pretty handy program for transferring files to and from the phone and making backups of your addees book. It has other features as well, like helping you to make ring tones, but it degrades the quality of the songs in the process. It's worth the small investment. Use the File Transfer Studio feature to move the ring tone, rather then the "Melody Studio".

    If your RAZR takes a memory card (you'll want one if you intend to use it as an occassional MP3 player), you can transfer files to and from a PC without the MPT software after you install the card.

    A PC treats the phones internal memory like a modem device, and therefore needs the drivers that come with MPT to talk to it. However, a PC will recognize the memory card just like a USB thumb drive. As soon as you plug it in, it will give it a drive letter and refer to it as Removable Disk. You can then copy and paste files to the memory card just like any other folder on your PC. From there, your phones own softweare can be used to copy or move files from the memory card to the phones internal memory (where the ring tones usually need to be to be accessed).

    There are also bit rate and size restrictions that will determine whether you can use an MP3 as a ring tone. These all vary by phone, and some service providors (Verizon) disable a lot of the options on their phones.

    Re: Getting a ringtone to my Razr

    Hello,
    Just a stupid question:

    Does the SIM card have to be inserted into the phone to be able to download mp3 ringtone etc.... ?

    I'm still waiting for the SIM card from my provider that is; and i want to play around a bit with the ringtone and background etc...

    Thx
