    Hi guys!

    I just got my new RAZR2 V9.
I used to have my girl phonenumber on speeddial #2 on my old RAZR V3 but with the V9 I realized that #2 was apparently reserved for 'videomail', i.e. #1 and #2 are locked in grey in PhoneBook -> Setup -> Speeddial.

So when I held down #2 on the homescreen a prompt popped up asking me for a videomail number and I simply entered my girl phonenumber there, guessing, that it would be super simple workaround of #2 being locked.

    And now here's the problem:
My girl called me and she shows up as "Videomail" calling me, which is obviously annoying. And the problem is, that

I CAN'T GET HER NUMBER OFF OF SPEEDDIAL #2 AGAIN.

This is extremely frustrating. I've already "global reset"'ed my phone and "reset and delete"'d it. Didn't help.

Does any of you know of a solution for this situation

cant you edit the number for Video Mail in your phonebook? put the number back the way it is supposed to be? Or can you change the name associated with that entry?
click my username and then the link for my "homepage" to get some useful info on hacking the Razr.

Mr. A. I was just about to copy and paste your question over @ HTR because there's a few V9m users there, but before I (or you) do, I saw that you posted that your phone is a V9.

So, could you please be very specific as to the model of your phone, maybe even the software version that's on it, and what carrier you are with.

    thanks

Re: Reset Videomail Speeddial Number ?

    Hi there.

After few days of frustration and back-and-forward with the customer support from both Rogers and Motorola, I was ready to give up and return the phone as they recommended.
Fortunately I had already spent my 30 minute usage return grace time, so was stuck with my new Razr2 V9, so I kept digging.

The good news is that the reset of the speed dial key 2 is possible, but the bad news is that you need to totally reset your phone as it came out from the box. This is done with all legal and original Motorola software, and does not imply any modding or hacking.
All you need to do is to reload the latest software on the phone. You need a computer, and mini-USB cable and the software available on-line for download from Motorola.

    Here is the procedure:

    Warning!
Reloading the provider original software on your phone will erase all data stored on your phone memory, including contacts, addresses, downloaded media, purchased games. The phone will be on the same state as you took it out of the box, with all counters reset to zero, including the life time. All passwords will be erased and replaced with the default ones.

    Software needed:
    1. Download and install the latest USB driver software form Motorola. You might need to register to gain access (free).
    at developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver

    2. Download the software update utility from:

    direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/Motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS]Motorola - Support - Software Update
    for Canada:

    direct.motorola.com/ENS/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=CND&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT]Motorola - Support - Software Update

You need to select a recent purchase date, your carrier, and agree to the terms. Download the software and install on your pc.

    3. Check that the Software Update works. Open the software, connect your phone to the PC and see if the model, the provider and the IMEI number are detected ok.
At this point the software will say that there is no Update Available. This is normal since is very likely you already have the latest version.
Disconnect the phone, and close the Software Update Tool.

Please back-up your data using commercial software as PhoneTools before proceeding. All data except the SIM card will be erased.

    4. Turn off the phone.

    5. Turn on the phone on boot-load mode:
You need 3 fingers for this. Keeping pressed on the * and the # keys, press the power button. The phone will power up in its native OS. The screen is black and displays just the current software version and a couple of other details.

    6. Connect the mini USB cable to the phone first, then to your PC. You might get some New USB device detected messages and the PC might auto install some flash drivers.

    7. When all is settled and the PC displays that your device is installed and ready to use, open the Software Update Tool from Motorola. This will start communicating with your phone, and will check for software update. The phone type and the provider will be displayed but not the IMEI number. The Softawre Update tool will start downloading to the phone the latest software version. Do not disconnect until completed. The phone will re-boot when ready.

Now you have a clean phone as out of the box. You can reprogram it, including the speed dial #2. Speed dial #1 it can be overwritten by the regular setting under Messages menu.

    Good luck.
