I purchased a usb sync cable on line from Eforcity for my RAZR2. But I need the software to install on my pc. Is there anywhere I can download the software instead of buying the kit from Verizon? I thought it would install the drivers automatically without the cd. I guess , I guessed wrong.

what software do you want would help a lot. theres different stuff for doing different things, so if you start of saying:

"this is what i want to do"

    then we can say:

"this is where you get software to do that"

    drivers here at any rate.

irrelevant to the situation. OP wants free software.. not something from ebay.

I need the drivers for the new usb cable that hooks up the phone to the pc in order to sync two. So I then can transfer my music from the pc to the RAZR

Re: Motorola RAZR2 V9M-Need Software for Cable

check my post above for the latest driver package. you should be able to get the VCAST software for FREE here: V CAST Music with Rhapsody

if you dont want that software, then you can just take the sd card out of your phone, place it into a card reader (needs an adapter from miniSD to SD or miniSD to thumb drive) place the music files into the "my_music" folder ... no DRM protected files will play on the phone (cant acquire a license). If you are ripping your own CD's you must rip them WITHOUT copy protection.

heres the rundown of doing it manually:
    1. card must be formatted with FAT file-system
    2. files need to be placed into "my_music" folder on your card. (folder will need to be created if you format the card using the PC)
    3. No copy protected files will play (except those which are purchased and transferred using the Vcast w/Rhapsody software)
    4. check the phone manual for supported media types. WMA's should be good to use... MP3's may also be supported as well. other file types may need conversion in order to be used.

Re: Motorola RAZR2 V9M-Need Software for Cable

I did all the things you had listed but I had to do one more thing to get my music to play on my phone. When the mp3 or wma files are synced from Windows Media Player to the micro sd card, it puts the songs in a folder of the artist name. I had to move the mp3 files to the my_music folder without being in the artist folder. Now I can finally listen to my music on the RAZR like a mp3 player. I have the adapters to play it in my truck sound system and using earpods when taking a walk. I wish the phone would accept more then 2gb of memory. Got any hacks for that spikejones? Thanks for your help.

The V9M from Verizon has built in "Sync with Windows Media Player" abilities.

If you're runing WinXP/Vista and WMP10 or 11... the Rhapsody software or the Vcast Music Manager Software is NOT needed to sync the V9M with Windows Media Player.

You MIGHT need the windows drivers (available from -> VCAST Music with Rhapsody or V CAST Music Manager Download ) make sure you pick the right driver.. i.e. for 32bit Windows or 64 bit windows..

The latest version are always available from the MotoDev web site -> MOTODEV > Documentation & Tools > USB Drivers for Motorola Products but while some of the newer drivers work well with newer phones (like the V9M, Z6tv, etc) they have compatibility issues with the "older generation" phones (like the E815, V3C...). Verizon's site has an older version which works well for all of them.

My V9M is now using USCellular firmware, so I can't tell you exactly, BUT.. once the phone is connected via USB cable to the PC... When using the Verizon firmware its something like... on the phone, go Menu -> Get-it-Now -> Tunes & Tones -> Sync Music...

That puts the phone into the mode to sync with WMP. And your computer along with WMP will see the phone as a Portable Music Player.

When the Verizon V9M was first being sold, it came with Firmware (or S/W) version 01.15.0DP.

It supported MicroSD cards formatted as Fat/Fat16 and Fat32. This is important because Fat/Fat16 is limited to 2gig, so cards 4gig and larger must be formatted as Fat32.

That firmware DOES support work just fine with my 512, 1gig, 2gig and 4gig MicroSD cards. (the 4gig being a MicroSDHC)

Apparently there were some problems with the phone's support of Fat32, and the newest Verizon V9M firmware 01.31.00 has removed support for cards formatted as FAT32. So you're limited cards formatted as FAT/FAT16, which means you are limited to 2gig and smaller cards.

I'm using a USCellular 02.0c.12p firmware, and 4 gig card works great. On the most up to date US Cellular V9M firmware, 4 gig card support is also removed.

Re: Motorola RAZR2 V9M-Need Software for Cable

I went to motodev and downloaded the motorola drivers for my Verizon v9m and low and behold i can now sync music from my WMP library.Wasn't really interested in using Rapsody subscription. Before that I formated my 2gb micro sd card to fat32. Now i dont have the hassle to take out my battery and sd card then into the pc to sync my music files. Two gigs is not enough for me. I filled the card up in no time. Would be nice to put a 8gb in but sounds like it won't reconize it in my phone. Thanks guys for all your help appreciate it.
