Hi. Does anyone know how to get music, ringtones, graphics, etc. on a Razr v3 via usb/pc? I don't want to purchase Moto's PhoneTools software; is it really necessary to transfer music/graphics from pc to cell?

Can someone tell me how to transfer music/graphics from pc to razr?

    Thanks!

You need the data cable for starters.
Software wise, I recommend P2k Commander
Download P2kCommander 6.0.0 for Java - P2kCommander is a file manager application for Motorola p2k mobile phones. - Softpedia
Takes some getting used too, but it's the best "free" way to do it.

    Hey, thanks so much!

The cables, I take it, are a specific type--not just a usb?

I connected my razr to my pc with a usb and my computer recognized it, but when prompted by the hardware installation, I got stuck. I tried the two usb options, but the message box did not recommend either of these.

    Any thoughts?

    Here ya go
    http://downloads.cellphonesgb.com/mo...2_v2.6.2.0.zip
Download this file, extract it, then plug in the phone.
When the "New Hardware Wizard" appears, click on "Choose Location of driver (Advanced)" and then next.. From there, click on "Browse" and find the folder that you just extracted, and it should install from there.

I need your expertise again, cellphonesgb...I downloaded cable driver and p2k software. All downloaded ok...

Can you explain to me how to navigate the software? I am not tech-savvy and I am feeling overwhelmed.

    Thanks again,

Give me a few hours and I'll post back on here. I'm uploading Motorola Phonetools to my website for download. I have 3 of the 6 parts uploaded already.

    Motorola Phone Tools 4.0
Motorola Phone Tools Part 1 of 6
Motorola Phone Tools Part 2 of 6
Motorola Phone Tools Part 3 of 6
Motorola Phone Tools Part 4 of 6
Motorola Phone Tools Part 5 of 6
Motorola Phone Tools Part 6 of 6

Remember to only download 1 part at a time, to prevent errors.
You will need WinRAR to unpack these. Install and enjoy.

The cable is a standard mini-USB, but you have to install the Phone Tools software before plugging your phone in for the first time. Otherwise, it might get recognized as an "unknown device" and will later have trouble hooking up with the drivers that the Phone Tools software installs.

If you're lucky, you might have canceled out of this situation. Otherwise, you'll have to go into Device Manager to delete the bogus device, then install Phone Tools, and then plug it in again. But as I said, any standard mini-USB cable will work to communicate with your phone and to charge it right from your PC.

Re: How do I get ringtones, graphics via pc on razr v3?

    Thanks for all the tips

cellphonesgb, I am embarrassed to even ask this, but...

Is it better to save file and then open with winrar or just to open it right off the bat?

Reason I ask is because I downloaded sections one at a time and then tried to open with winrar; only section one opened. I couldn't access section 2, as winzip kept coming up.

Explain it to me like I'm six

    ...And thanks!!

No worries, multi-part RAR files can be hard if you aren't sure how they work.

You need to download all 6 parts, put them all into the same directory. Then just right click on Part 1 of 6 and extract it. It will extract everything from all 6 parts into a nice pretty directory

I would recommend using winRAR. WinZip doesn't work the best with multi-part RAR files.

Re: How do I get ringtones, graphics via pc on razr v3?

I just got my Razr as an unlocked phone from an "offshore" vendor, and it came with the CD for Phone Tools 5.0. Did all these phones originally come with this software, or was mine just a special packaging? I've really been impressed with what I can do with the s/w, taking clips out of my MP3s to use as ringtones, cropping photos and sending them to the phone, etc. Plus being able to back up my phonebook data.

No, the Motorola Phone tools program usually doesn't come with phones.
Being an unlocked phone, there is a good chance that the phone was used, so they included the software as a bonus.

Yea, the phone tools is a great PC Suite. One of the best phone managers that I've used.
