Hi folks,

I've just installed a Sony-Ericsson HCB-30 car kit. It works a treat with my Seimens S55 (one button press on the S55 to activate Bluetooth, get in the car, switch on the ignition and hey presto all is up and running).

However, with my wife's Motorola V550 it's a different story. I'm guessing it's either Motorola's dumb implementation of their Bluetooth feature (or menu structures) rather than a real problem with the HCB-30. Here's the problem.

Pairing the HCB-30 and V500 works OK. Making calls works OK first time, but next time you get in the car (maybe next day) you have to go through a long winded procedure on the V550 to get it to "bond" with the HCB-30. Question is why should this be the case - why doesn't it just automatically bond (like the S55)?

The process on the V550 is something like:
settings -> connection -> Bluetooth Link -> Hands-free -> BT power is off Temporarily power on (YES) -> HCB-30 (select) ... then it starts seeking, if it finds the HCB-30 you're then asked if you want to bond to it (of course I do!!!).
It's possible to shortcut the first 3 steps using a hot key, but it's still bleeding long!

Personnally I wouldn't mind toooo much having to go through that long procedure except that on a few occassions the V550's Bluetooth function seems to have locked up (generally just can't find the HCB-30, but once it locked up and i had to remove the V550's battery to kick it back into life).

However, my wife being the technophobe she is is put off by having to follow such a long technical procedure (and IMHO why should anyone have to!). The HCB-30 was primarily bought for her to use, but because of this problem she's damned frustrated, not using the kit, and giving me daggers for buying a "heap of junk" . Her main issue being "I just want to jump in the car and drive rather than spend 2 minutes going through a procedure that all too often fails to work"

So, any suggestions as to if this "problem" is me and my wife not using a simpler/correct V550 procedure, if it's a common problem with the V550 (or Motorola Bluetooth phones in general), or a genuine interop problem between the V550 and HCB-30?

Cheers,
Colin.
