Have you tried all the ports that the USB cable can connect to? Try connecting through different USB ports..

1. Does windows automatically see the new hardware? does it say new hardware found.
2. If windows finds the hardware, check for correct drivers
3. If you install MPT and update the installation, you should have all the latest drivers.
4. If windows does not detect new hardware, you may want to check the usb port or the cable. Try connecting another device to the usb port, try another cable if you can get another or borrow.

Ok, so that means your USB port and cable is fine. It is just the driver problem.
You can get the MPT software for about #30. Installing this will install the drivers. Try to get an older version like MPT 2.0 that some retailers may have lying around and may give you for much less. Once you install 2.0, you can connect your phone and then upgrade (using the update option in the software menu) the software to the latest version..

Once you start the program, take the cable out and plug it back again into the phone. Should autodetect, or click the button to detect.
Did you install all the updates, not just one. Also read from

I had to install the USB driver manually because Mobile Phone Tools does find the phone but won't install the driver automatically.
