If I were to sell my cell phone which is originally based off in Canada off of Fido's network I know it can be sold in the US for Cingular, T-Mobile etc..but would that mean it has to be unlocked? If so, how do I know if it even does need to be..? Thanks..

Spoolin, one way of checking is to insert a sim card from a different carrier, if it doesn't ask for a subsidy code or any code for that matter the phone is unlocked..

Yeah just go to a different cell provider and ask them to see if your phone is compatibile with their service...
If it's locked, then ask them if they know of where you can get it unlocked, and how much they charge. You might be able to find codes online, but if you are in a rush then it might be a good option. Generally, places charge around $20-25.

vdub grrl you can also call your provider tell em you're going to spain or any other country in europe for that matter and that you need the unlock codes; they'll ussually email em to ya in like 48 hrs. i know for a fact that both t-mobile and cingular do this in the states, it wouldnt hurt to try it up there in canada.

Yeah well I don't have that service provider anymore and it's been cancelled now so I don't know if they can give that to me if the phone will be activated in the states more than likely..I checked Cingular they said it has to be unlocked definitely in order for us to use it here and then a new sim card.
