Ok so yes, if your v3x is branded then it is locked...
also you have another problem here, the v3x is for the UMTS 3g network, Cingular has not deployed their version of this so you're gonna to have major signal problems.

Unlocking v3x
from what i have gathered, supposedly, the remote unlock services are temporarily not available...the phone may be too new for them to have the codes. i'm assuming that these guys will have the codes shortly...you just may have to be a little more patient. i'm in the same boat...i acquired a v3x from the UK and will need to find someone to unlock when i receive it in a week or so. try these sites if you haven't already:
www.remoteunlocker.com
www.cell-unlock.com
www.discount-unlock.com
i read from a couple of posters on different sites that the remoteunlocker site worked. however, right now, it's pretty expensive (~$50).
as for the UMTS (3G) technology, the above poster is correct in that i don't think you'll be able to use it. first off, only cingular has rolled out this technology and have so in a limited number of mkts (ex. dallas, tx). secondly, both our phones are to european specs who's 3G service utilizes the 2100MHz frequency. here in the US, the 3G spectrum from what i've researched will operate off the 1900MHz spectrum...therefore making the phone incompatible. however, i'm not sure if this is something that can be modified to make it work. flashing, flexing, and modding are ways to customize your phone, but you could get into trouble if you don't know what you're doing and end up with a dead phone. i'd do a lot of research before tampering with your phones firmware and system files...
you should be able to use the phone on the 1900 band, but could run into signal issues if you go farther out of the urban limits where the use more of the 850MHz band....

www.motomodders.com
hope this helps...Last edited by HornDevil; 01-27-2006 at 11:56 AM. Reason: updated info..

well, i recently received my v3x from europe. i tried installing my sim, but no go. i tried a few places here in dallas, but no one can unlock this puppy as of yet. here's what i've come across since trying to get this phone unlocked...
the sites that i recommended in the previous post are still showing the v3x unlocking service as temporarily unavailable. i suspect they are having difficulty with unlocking this phone remotely and will re-offer the service when they've gotten more successful with it. one cell phone shop owner told me that he's heard of some problems with the IMEI unlocking method...didn't elaborate, but i think he meant that it didn't always work....anyhow...he recommends unlocking thru the cable method...of course, he could just be trying to sell his service to me...he said he would need to send it into his company's warehouse for them to unlock it.
i checked out discount-unlock.com, and no where on their site does it say the service is unavailable. however, if you read their "Conditons for Sale" disclaimer, it doesn't make it sound like it would be very easy to get your money back if they failed to unlock your phone...actually, they say that refunds will only be given under very special circumstances. your options would be to either go to one of their Unlock Shops (only one in the US is in Oakland, CA). or they will give you a coupon good for one year for whatever else they're selling. yeah, i decided to hold off.
anyone else have any suggestions or recommendations? i really don't want to send this phone off somewhere to get unlocked. i suppose i may have to sit on it a bit longer until unlocking this phone becomes more readily available...
btw...it's motomodders.net NOT motomodders.com....Last edited by HornDevil; 02-03-2006 at 01:41 PM.
