I have a RAZR on cingular. Over the last two days I have received over a dozen calls from the same number. No one is ever there, I just hear background noise. I have called and no one answers. If I don't answer, my voicemail picks up a long message that I cannot erase until listening to the entire thing. I called cingular to see if they could block the number. They said no, that I could change my number if I was bothered by it.
Does anyone on here know if there is a way to effectively block the number using the phone itself? Thank you for your expertise.

Two answers: first, if you know their number and want to use your phone to block it, this sounds like a job for Cell Phone USA.
Second, if you're not satisfied with the options they provide, you may want to look into a Net Detective account -- I have one, and it's designed for handling problems like this. Let me know how it works out.

You can always plug that number into your phone book, and assign a slient ring tone to it, so that it does not ring when it calls. it will still go to voice mail though.
In most markets, with Cingular, pressing 7 twice during voice mail, will delete the VM that's playing at the time. In the phone setup, make sure that the DTMF is set to LONG.

Thanks for
the advice and info. The 77 to delete works. That is nice to know. When I was with nextel the delete worked 1 second into the message. It was handy if you had already gotten the message elsewhere or if someone was rambling.
Six hours now without a call. I think maybe the person got one of my messages and stopped doing it or causing it to be done.
Thanks again.

While listening to the voicemail, hit "33" to skip to the end of the message & then you can hit 7 to delete it.
