I know 4 or five people with the RAZR V3c. Most everyone loves it, but my dad and a guy I work with can't stand them. They complain about not being able to hear and poor reception. Are there just some phones that are lemons? Are they just complaining? On fathers Day I told my dad I'd try to figure out what the problem was since he's stuck with the phone for another year and a half.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I had the V3c and now have the V3m for almost two weeks now. The hearing thing may be where they place the phone to their ear. The sound almost comes out the top, so you have to hold the phone down from you ear. It was annoying at first, but it is something I got used to, and now its fine. Other then that push the volume button up on the side of the phone during a call to increase earpiece volume.

As far as reception, I noticed this right away. I would hold it up to another, different older model phone from verizon, and the other older phone would always have 1-2 bars more everywhere it seemed. But I've never had a problem with static (that I didn't have with my old phone), and have only dropped one call so far. I'm kind of assuming that since it is an all digital phone, that since I'm getting even the smallest bar, it equals good reception (with digital its usually all or nothing). So I don't know if that helps anything or not, but good luck.

Oh yeah I have verizon like I mentioned... if your dad and his friend's provider doesn't have good coverage where you are, that would obviously make a difference.

First of all, don't recommend those cheap worthless stickers to people, they don't do anything to improve your reception. Many of the "antenna boosters" sold today are not even made with metal, they're just painted pieces of plastic.

Second, tavenger5 DID NOT post that anywhere, why the heck would you say he did? Please make sure you know what you're talking about before you go giving our site's members bad advice. Thanks!

PS. The only "reception boosters" that really work are here and here.

Some people don't like the volume on certain phones, because "THEY" can't hear well with those phones. I know several people that even after modding the volume on their phones, they still could not hear well on them, but using a different phone, even a cheaper one, they were able to hear just fine.

Also you dad is not stuck with any phone for a year and a half, he only needs to decide which phone he actually likes and just buy it, used, new or refurbished. The neat thing about cell phones is the only reason you will ever be "stuck" with a phone, is if you refuse to upgrade a phone without getting a discount from the carrier.

My advice is to have your dad try a few different phones, beg, borrow one. Or head to a dealer and ask about trying a loaner, in hopes of buying it if he can hear well with it. It's something I would do if I had a problem hearing on a certain phone or headset.
