Your insurance only covers the phone that you got when you renewed your plan.

just call and say it was stolen, pay the money for the claim, and you should get a treo

My question is... how did you blow your speakers out!? When it starts sounding ruff, i turn it down, but then again, I have never even touched, let alone use a Slvr, is it loud?
Live life to the fullest. Even if full is over 3.75 a gallon! (Wow, I wrote this two years ago, and that is when I was paying 2.35 a gallon, I now pay 3.50!)

The insurance ONLY covers the phone your bouight through Cingular. It will not cover any phone your didn't buy through Cingular period.

If you report it stolen the insurance company will ask for a copy of the police report. So don't be calling it stolen when you know it's not. And you'll be needing a dated police report as well, so unless you hav e a cop in your back pocket that is willing to write out a false report for you...

When you got the new phone and insured it, there would be a record of which phone you bought insurance for with Lock Line and Cingular. So you won't even be able to pull a fast one that way. And if you sold the Treo and are still paying the monthly fee for the insurance, you're what my dad would call "Not quite right" .

On a side note, you can send any pone you buy to the folks that make it and they will be happy to fix it for you if that's an option. The only catch is, they will want you to PAY for that service.

So sure Motorola will fix it, but you will need to pay for it.

Now, if you can get paperwork from the original owner, and it's under a year old, and the original owner is willing to have it sent in under their name, to get it refurbished or fixed, you'll be in like Flynn. The one year replacement warranty from the carrier only applies to the original owner of the phone.

Not sure about Motorola's policy with phones in the first year. Might be worth a phone call to them to at least check it out as an option.

He can say he just lost it, which doesn't require any kind of proof. Police reports aren't required always either, I've never ever heard of that being required. If he pays the $3.99/month and the $50 claim fee, they have to provide him with a new phone if he says he lost it, especially if the phone on the account (IMEI #) is the one he wants to make the claim on.

No one will get in trouble, the only problem you will face is not being the original owner, and getting anything done for free is all. The reason 99.99% of the companies and makers of cell phones don't cover them past the first owner is simple. They have no idea what the original owner may have done to the phone, before the 2nd or 3rd owner gets the phone in their hands.

So that is why when you buy a second hand phone, you are pretty much on your own, as far as warrenty, replacement and repair goes. But with that said, it never hurts to ask the carrier or the maker if they can do anything for you. Most of the time if it's a known problem they will deal with it, if it's within the first year of use.
