I received a text message from someone which shows up as a junk character with "@" (like x@ where x is the junk character)

This has happenned with 2 phones in the last few days - Razr and SLVR

Both the phones I have are international unlocked versions. Service provider is cingular for the razr and t-mo for the slvr.
Any ideas what this is? a virus? spammer?
