On several Motorola phones I've seen, there is a small white dot in the housing just behind the battery after removing the back cover. Is that the dot that I heard indicates if the phone was exposed to moisture? I read that every phone brand has an indicator to show the repairman if the unit got wet. Is that dot the indicator? Is it used by all manufacturers?

All phones have an indicator somewhere on the phone, but it's not always white and not always under the battery. On some LG phones, the indicator is on the battery itself which can be a pain for someone working at a counter. All phones have more than just one indicator INSIDE the phone, but there is usually only one on the exterior.

I begrudgingly filed the claim, got the new phone, and fresh out of the sealed plastic the indicator on the battery was the same shade of blue as the one I already had, now I'm through the roof as you can imagine!
Back to the Sprint Store, asked for the manager, and she looked scared (I was so mad I was shaking and even though I spoke calmly and professionally while explaining my problem, my voice had the tremble of someone about to snap). She took the phone to the back with her and after some time she came back red-faced. It seems that around the same time I got my phone, LG changed the color of the indicator from white to blue, and previously blue meant water damage, where now on the blue indicator black means water damage!!!
Well, after a profuse apology and $75 worth of credits on my bill (the cost of the insurance claim plus $25 for my inconvenience) they activated the phone I just got and gave me an extra battery (with a WHITE indicator) for free. Was it worth all the trouble? Probably not, but the second phone had the new yellow logo and the old one had the old red logo. As to the power-cycle problem, it turns out the LG PM-225 is just a piece of crap, it does that sometimes.

Yeah, I wish LG would be like every other manufacturer and put an indicator in a logical place that's easy to recognize. If I were a customer that damaged my LG phone, I would ask a friend if I could borrow the battery out of his phone, take it into a dealer, have them see there's no water damage to the phone, get my phone replaced, give my friend his battery, and buy a new battery. I have to wonder how many damaged phones LG gets back that are marked as "in warranty" when they're not.
Their indicator sucks too! The ones they use for Verizon phones are white with little red dots on them. When the phone gets wet, the little red dots bleed out and change the color of the sticker to red or pink. There were a line of batteries manufactured by LG that came off the line pink! I sent probably 20 customers out the door before anybody told me A) that this was a known problem, and B) how to find out if it was one of these batteries. I love LG phones, but I hate that they don't help me help them.Last edited by spum; 08-11-2006 at 10:53 AM.

Lick it and it turns a cool red color (also voids your warranty )
