Hey, i have a 3g network contract phone. My contract is due to expire if a few months

However, i want to know will it be possible to put a 'pay as you go' 3g free pay sim in the phone once the conract has ended, before i go and buy a new sim card??

---or will i have to get the phone unlocked/un branded?
