I was unable to charge the battery in my Motorola V300 cell yesterday. The Charger didn't work on my alternate phone, either. It went dead. I've only used it for a few months. The chargers for my Sony camcorders all lasted over 7 years. Is it normal for cell phone chargers to malfunction so soon? After jiggling the retractable blades for awhile, the charger returned to life. However, it was shortlived. It stopped working again. What could be the problem? Have any of you guys had problems with Motorola chargers?

That is a Moto problem that has been around. If you keep jiggling it around it will work and when it does don't move anything. But that just gets old fast. I would take the phone back and get it replaced.

    Re: Motorola Charger Problems

Ah, the age old Moto charging problem. I just started a similar thread about this last week. I would do what Ironwalt says. You can also try maybe cleaning the contacts a little bit.

Of all Moto complaints, this is one of the more common ones you'll see.

After a while you sort of get used to when the blades are positioned just right to get the phone to charge.

If you drop or bang your phone, that can also affect how the charging will be affected. I dropped my E815 on the floor a little while ago, and the first thing that started acting up was how the charger was working, or sometimes, not working.

    Re: Motorola Charger Problems

I've had Motorola phones with that chargeport for the last 3 years or so, and I've never had one of them go bad on me. I'm convinced that there's something connected with the user to make them go bad...like dropping it on the floor or something. The problem is obviously frequent enough that it's a poorly designed port; it just seems weird to me that I've never personally run into the problem.

    Re: Motorola Charger Problems

OH SURE! Blame it on me, LOL. Actually I've had it happen with phones that I've dropped, and some I haven't. People that work with Moto's have told me that the less than ideal charging ports are very temperamental and can even get 'weird' just from having chargers continously taken in and out of that port.

One thing I've never used with this particular port is one of those desktop chargers where the phone sits in the unit and the pins go into it when you put it on the cradle...any better luck with those things or do those mess up too?

    Re: Motorola Charger Problems

I've never used the desktop style. I see the pins on the charger break a lot or the connections in the phone get covered with dirt or whatever. I'm just saying that I think it's a combination of the manufacturer and the user...although it's definitely more on the manufacturer side. Otherwise, they'd be like the LG charging ports that hardly ever go bad.

    Re: Motorola Charger Problems

True the charging ports are crap, maybe a ploy by motorola to make more money, but with their bling I doubt it. I'v noticed that once a new one is bought it clears up the problem, but no ones wants to keep doing that, which is why moto has for the most part changed to the charging port that the V3 L7 and others are using the only downfall with this is it double as a data, headphone, charging, any accessory port which sucks and wouldn't be so bad if there was more than one but alas my word alone will never be enough to sway moto's desision

I see that Motorola is still coming out with phones that have that charging port; only time will tell I guess.

    Re: Motorola Charger Problems

I just had a Motorola V325 in this morning where the charging port went bad. She's had the phone for about 7 months. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come...
