I did my best to find an answer via search function... unsuccessfully. I appreciate if anyone can lend a hand.

Last night I almost broke down and purchased some ringtones, but something told me it was a bad idea considering the hundreds and hundreds of songs on my PC. There had to be a way to make my own ringtones.

I was able to do so, cutting the portion(s) of the MP3 I wanted as a ringtone.

I uploaded the tone to my /audio folder, deleted the MyToneDB.db...etc, restarted the phone, and my new tones showed up in the appropriate area. Great! It seemed to work.

I was able to select the new MP3 ringtone from the list, even preview it prior to selecting.

BUT -- for some reason, even when new MP3 tone is selected, if I receive a call, it plays the "Alert" ringtone instead of the MP3 tone I selected. If I go back into the Style detail it still shows the new MP3 tone as the selected ringer.

I cannot figure out what I've done wrong. The ringtone plays on my phone just fine, but it won't act as the "ring" when my phone is called, even if selected for all calls.

Please help, and I thank you in advance...

    Regards,

    Bryan

Normally you don't even need to delete the MyToneDB.db file. You should be able to just upload the ringtone to your phone, select it from the list, and it should work. The only time you should ever have to delete that temp file is when you are deleting any of the stock ringtones.

Negative, the V and others of CDMA, requires that file, an the other tmp file be deleted to be able to use mp3's as a ring tone.

I would check under ringer styles an settings that you actually have turned ringer id's on.

Then check the persons phone number an make sure you have a ringer set to them, you can set a general mp3 ringer for all, or each individaul.

Mind you,on motorola, when they send you a SMS or a MMS it will play the MP3 instead of what you choose in ringer styles,Frustrating.

    Peace

Fellas - I don't know what I did/didn't do... but for some reason with out any further manipulation, the ringers work as they should. I think shutting the phone down to charge overnight somehow corrected the issue. OK, I doubt that's what fixed the problem, but I did nothing else after the problem occurred so I'm calling that the cure.

MotoMadMan - as WarRaven confirmed, you must delete the two .db files, then restart phone when uploading new ringtones on the v400 using p2kman.
I know this due to a number of frustrating attempts to upload ringtones only to find out the reason it wasn't working was because I didn't take that exact simple last step.

I do this when deleting ringtones and uploading ringtones. The files rebuild themselves based on the new inventory of the /audio folder. When you amend the inventory, it's best to let the files update.

WarRaven - that DOES suck that the ringtone assigned to a specific individual number ALSO plays when you receive a text message or SMS.

I got Jack Black doing a karate chop as my text message tone... it's hilarious.

Anyway, somehow it's all working. Over the weekend I cut and uploaded a few more MP3's - they all work as well.

Thanks for your help fellas. Take it easy.
