I have been trying to make my own ringtones with no success. I know they have to be MIDI files for them to recognize on my phone, but i haven't found any good programs to make my mp3's into midi files. Any suggestions where I can find free software? I even tried mp3ringtones gold but its not exactly user friendly, and its only a trial version which only gives you 5second midi's.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Why exactly are you trying to convert an MP3 to midi? That is not only pointless, but a complete waste of time. Just pix message your :30 MP3 ringtone to your phone. It only costs .25 to do it this way. You can do it right from your e-mail account, or go to a website that will do it for you.

    Re: Moto KRZR ringtones software

I have tried but all i get is text, no attachment, does KRZR support mp3 ringtones, because all that are on it now are midi/ thats why i want to know. I have 4000 mp3s, if i can convert them to wav, then to midi, i got 4000 free ringtones. I am not going to pay 10 dollars for 4 credits for ringtones. Are there any good programs i can use to make ringtones that verizon will let me load to my phone?

If you are not getting the attachment, then you are doing something wrong. Go to mobile17 - Send Music and Photos to your Cellphone, for FREE as Ringtones and Graphics! (Free Ringtones and Graphics for your Mobile Phone.) and try uploading your MP3 ringtones (make sure they are :30 or less in length) and see how it works for you.

Yes, all Verizon phones (at least the camera and V-Cast capable models) support MP3 ringtones. You just have to make sure they are no more than :30 in length and that you are sending them in PIX messages, not TXT messages.

The only program that is 100% supported by Verizon Wireless is the Get It Now program. Anything else you do is entirely on your own. Pix messages will not void your warranty, but there are other methods out there that will.

    Re: Moto KRZR ringtones software

i'm not positive but i think i have a related question.

i've cut some of my mp3s to 30 seconds with audacity and made them into mp3s again with razorlame mp3 encoder.

my problem is when i send them to my KRZR, they get saved to the "My Sounds" folder instead of "My Ringtones."

I could be simply too new to the phone, but can someone please explain to me how I can select ringtones from the "My Sounds" folder or save my ringtones to the "My Ringtones" folder.

I'm not willing to pay for credits.

    THANKS!!!

Any ringtone that you send to your phone will be saved in the "My Sounds" folder. That is how it works. You will select a "Sound" to use as a ringtone by simply navigating to that sound, clicking options and setting it as a ringer ID. good luck, and enjoy!

    Re: Moto KRZR ringtones software

i've tried this, but the only options i get when i navigate to the sound are as follows:

    OPTIONS
    1. To Picture Place
    2. Rename
    3. Lock
    4. Erase
    5. Erase All
    6. Sound Info

there is no "Set As" option as there is when you navigate to tones in the "My Ringtones" folder.

also, when i am in "Settings & Tools" section of the menu. i've tried going to "4. Sound Settings" > "2. Call Sounds" > "1. Call Ringtone" ....... the problem is the only options i get are the ringtones from "My Ringtones."

i'm afriad that verizon may have rigged my phone so that i am forced to use their expensive ringtones... and that's a little over the line if you ask me.

    Re: Moto KRZR ringtones software

I'm seeing the same situation as the previous person. Have tried several different methods; have used datapilot and input mp3 ringtones which show in the ringtone selection menu but won't select and save when you try. Have used the email and downloaded the converted mp3s with .mid extension from mobile17 into my sound folder but there is not option to take them over to ringtones. Even emailed the converted mid file to pc, then used cable to input into phone. Again it shows in selection menu but won't allow me to select and save. Any thoughts??
I should add that I have used the (#)@vzwpix.com in the past with previous Motorolas and LG phones with great success, but it won't work for me here.

A question: does anyone know if Verizon is locking down the ability to download ringtones in this krazr? The only ringtones that work are the originals that show a lock on their icon in the menu.

    Re: Moto KRZR ringtones software

For the ringtones, either use mobile17.com or go buy a rintone software kit from wal-mart. They have to be 30 seconds or less for the phone to accept them as ringtones. I went and bought ringtone maker 2.0 yesterday for 18 dollars and it works great. I have added about 20 ringtones so far and haven't had a problem with it yet. took me awhile to find them stored on my phone which is under get it now/ music and tones/my ringtones. thats just where they are stored. Now that I got my own ringtones (my own mp3 cut down to 30 sec's) I absolutely love this KRZR. you make the tones with the software, save them to your computer, then you have to email them to your phone at [email protected] it will come in as a pix msg and will start playing your tone, select options and save sound. It will come up saying something about deleting unsupported files but just ignore this and delete the msg after saving the tone, to find the tone saved look above, i explained where to find them.

You can put your mp3s on your phone only if you buy the music essentials kit from verizon, which gives you the drivers for your phone, a USB cable, and headphones. You have to sync with window media player 10 to transfer your mp3s to your phone...believe me I tried every other way and it doesn't work, it will only work witht he kit.

    Hope all this helps.

    helpp!!

i have been havin the same exact problem as the two mentioned above... and i used to use mobile17 for all my old verizon phones.... This krzr is tough to work with! what do you need the mobile essentials kit for exactly? i have the data cable and the motorola phone tools (from my rzr that doesnt recognize the krzr) but the data cable still works and XP recognizes the phone. Also, since mobile17 only saves it in My Sounds, there is no way to make these sounds a ringtone, ive tried it all... or is there?? please help!!

the Music Essential kit gives you the drivers for the krzr, and the usb cable, both of which you dont really need, unless you want to put mp3s on your phone via windows media player 10, then you need the drivers. I went out and bought a ringtone maker (aprox 18 dollars) i save the 30 second clips to my computer then i email them to my phone. your email addy should be [email protected] ...love the phone, except that my vibrate function isnt working, other than that its a great phone.
