Re: Guide to setting mp3s ringtones on KRZR

i just got a krzr, and have been searching for a method to get mp3 ringtones onto my phone since i ordered the phone. since it seems as though the pix email method is dead, this seems to be the best method.

now my question is, is this a safe method? there is no way that my phone could get messed up by doing this, correct?

and my second question is, this won't void any warranties, right? i read somewhere (maybe here, maybe not. i've done a lot of searching.) about some sort of hack, that if done it would void the warranty. so if you mess up the phone or some thing happens down the line... you're out of luck!

all i want is one ringtone on my phone that i highly doubt that i will find anywhere. it's a simple 12 second mp3.

Re: Guide to setting mp3s ringtones on KRZR

i was also wondering if it would void any warrenties. also why do u have to delete that file in step 11? what does that file do, or what would happen if u did delete it?

all i was really interested in is to get some ringtones from one phone to another..so if i went into the folder and just copied the ringtone file, hooked up the other phone, and just pasted that ringtone file into the same folder, would that second phone now have the same ringtone?

also in step 15 where u have to select the "system survive/master reset/clear attribute." what does that do, or what happens when you do that?

    thanks!

I tried all of that, and none of it worked.

Like i said, my phone will not connect to the motorola update program, and the p2kcommander does not show it either, even though it is clearly connected.

I do get the little pop up menu where i can listen to the songs i have on it, or "open folder to view files" but thats it. and it will connect to jump music

I am using alltel, k1m (silver)

That is wierd because most of anything you download is usually mp3's. That is what is most used. So I wonder why they use non mp3's now.

Re: Guide to setting mp3s ringtones on KRZR

For the ringtones, either use mobile17.com or go buy a rintone software kit from wal-mart. They have to be 30 seconds or less for the phone to accept them as ringtones. I went and bought ringtone maker 2.0 yesterday for 18 dollars and it works great. I have added about 20 ringtones so far and haven't had a problem with it yet. took me awhile to find them stored on my phone which is under get it now/ music and tones/my ringtones. thats just where they are stored. Now that I got my own ringtones (my own mp3 cut down to 30 sec's) I absolutely love this KRZR. you make the tones with the software, save them to your computer, then you have to email them to your phone at [email protected] it will come in as a pix msg and will start playing your tone, select options and save sound. It will come up saying something about deleting unsupported files but just ignore this and delete the msg after saving the tone, to find the tone saved look above, i explained where to find them.

You can put your mp3s on your phone if you buy the music essentials kit from verizon, which gives you the drivers for your phone, a USB cable, and headphones. You have to sync with window media player 10 to transfer your mp3s to your phone.

these methods do not require you to delete any files off of the phone, and will not void any warranties.

All this info and others replies is also listed under verizon catagory. It is on the second page of threads.

    Hope all this helps.

Re: Guide to setting mp3s ringtones on KRZR

excellent tutorial. But my question is; what else can I edit with this method? the default skins that the phone comes with suck. I'd like to change the color scheme but I don't know what program to use to alter these .dat and .ski files with. surely there must be some other things I can change using p2k commander.
