Kinda strange but I'll explain it the best I can. The phone has been working perfectly for over 6 months. I have not played with any codeplugs or mods or any kind. Phone powers up just fine. It'll show the main phone screen and background, and when you hit any button, contacts, messages, any of them. It shows you that screen for a split second and then it goes back out to the original background screen. It's almost like as soon as the contact list appears(or messages menu, or java, etc) it's like you hit the red disconnect button. It allows you to answer calls, but it disconnects after a second or so. If you make calls while the phone is closed(by using the speaker phone and recent calls list) it works fine, no disconnect at all. The problem occurred on the phone while I was running software version R5B.00.04 and the phone functioned well enough to upgrade to R5B.02.00. I called motorola and for $55 they offered to look at it, but I thought I'd see if anyone might have a suggestion first.

Thanks for any info someone can pass along,

    Re: I870 Software Problem

Turns out it wasn't a software problem. It was the red disconnect key sticking down inside the phone. After what motorola said, I figured I may as well tear it apart. Bought a torx set at Radio Shack at lunch, took out four screws, popped it apart, touched the circuit board where the disconnect button is and it popped out. It's back to normal. I must have either hit the red button to hard or dropped it and not noticed, but it's good to go now.
