Hello folks how are you doing im new here..

I want to put music files on my new cellphone but i kinda have to edit the files to cope with certain standards set by the cell phone:

(Nextel Motorola i580 Cell Phone - 1GB MicSD card)

Audio (Playback) - MIDI (FM-Midi, Type-0, 16 Polyphony, SP-Midi Compliant), WAV (8kHZ, 8-bit Mono PCM Canonical Format), AMR, AU, MP3

For some reason all the MP3 files I put in could not be read.

Maybe my File naming is unacceptable?

    Rules:

.The file name can contain both ASCII and Unicode Characters
.The File name can be up to 96 ASCII characters long and 32 Unicode Characters long, including the file extension and folder name
.The file name must be in a language your phone can display

So if you folks can think of any program tha can help me convert my music files into playable files... please help me out.

*Anyone know if i can use those MP3 files as Ringtones? Thanks

Thanks for your time and help and have a good day.

Woow, thats a lot of letters and a lot of numbers
Anyways, when you buy a micro SD card first you have to format the card from the phone or else it will not read ANY mp3 files.
And .mp3 files cannot be used as ringtones, you need to convert it to .wav and the file can not be longer than 45 sec.

Do you know any good programs I can use for that? I have been trying to do so but it seems that the files never met the criteria.

well....for the ringtones/wallpapers/java apps use myjal or webjal. I'd go for myjal that way you wont need to be on the web, search it on google.

Re: Problems with file exchanging for i580

Sorry to revive an old thread. Just correcting some misinformation for the benefit of other folks still using the i580.

MP3s can be used as ringtones, as long as they're pared down to 8-bit mono, and placed in the AUDIO folder (created by the phone's format operation). The song or whatever will be truncated by the phone to 15 seconds if it isn't that length already (you'll get a prompt the first time you try to assign it).

And (as mentioned previously) 32 characters for the file name. That's it. Including the folder hierarchy.

As far as listening to tunes goes, the i580's built-in player app is pretty forgiving. File name lengths can be plenty long. The files don't have to be in the AUDIO folder; the player will find them pretty much anywhere. But they won't show up in the Media Center (or be made available for ringer/alarm assignment) unless they are in the AUDIO folder.
