KRZR short cut for Comma's in Text??

OK just got a KRZR and I text a lot. It is driving me crazy that I can't find a short cut to insert comma's in my text. I always had LG's prior to this phone and the #1 key was a short cut for comma's. Does anyone know of a shortcut or do I always have to select "symbols" and then Comma. That is so annoying! I'm missing my LG...

Hit 1 while in regular text mode. (abc1 or abc2) Then hit down arrow until you see the comma; it's usually the right after the period.
