KRZR and Curious problem with MPT

Im having a most curious problem with Motorola phone tools and my Krazr k1 phone. The phone or MPT refuses to sync correctly with each other. when I attempt to retreive or back up my phone book from my phone to my PC, no data is transferred. I can send TXT messages from MPT when my phone is connected, however the only data available to it is a list of the phone numbers in my address book, but none of the names or places associated with those numbers.

the reason this is so curious is that the first time I installed MPT I didn't really know what I was doing and it worked fine. I was able to type in a name from my address book in the txt message window and the corrosponding phone number would show up beside it. Every subsequent time I have reinstalled the program the data has failed to transfer. Im thinking that its gotta be a settings issue or perhaps I didn't install things in the correct order?

Does anyone have any ideas? or even a possible direction they could point me in to fix this problem? thanks

just to recap
I am using win XP and have reinstalled and completly uninstalled MPT several times now witht he same result.
my phone is directly connected to my computer via a usb cable and I can send txt msgs no problem from my PC using it.
