    what carrier are you with?
what firmware is on your phone?

why bother texting/mmsing the file to yourself when you can upload it to your phone with p2k commander (needs drivers and MSU running in the background)?

FYI... some carriers intentionally block (via configuration files in the phone) the ability to do stuff like sending ringtones to your phone from a website like that. Their intention is to make you buy ringers from them. It doesn't have to be that way.

Re: Ringtone? How come it Isnt saving?!

    WHAT YOU NEED:
    1. install drivers from motodev website (MOTODEV) - register as a developer for free, then search the site for "USB handset drivers"

    2. install MSU or PST to use as a means of suspending the phone to p2k mode (or use hyperterminal to send the command AT+MODE=8 to the phone)

Edit: the above programs may not be necessary for the newest version of p2k commander as it should take care of doing the p2k swap for you.

    3. install p2k commander

    what you do.
    1. start MSU or PST first, then connect the phone (again, may not be necessary when using the newest version of p2k commander)
    2. phone should suspend to p2k mode at this point - when using MSU it will be ready when the ESN shows in the window, for PST it will be ready when you hear the "hardware connected" chimes from the PC
    3. at this point, open p2k commander and browse to /motorola/shared/audio - the ringers *should* be here on this firmware - if not, let me know and I will check with someone who might know (they might have moved the location to /motorola/shared/ringtone) you will know which folder on the phone it is though since you will see the rest of your ringtones.

Edit: just look at another forum and it looks like they have the ringers stored at this location for some firmwares: a/brew/mod/my_ringers/

    4. copy your ringer to the proper folder (some phones/firmwares require the extension to be renamed to .qcp, which can be done by going to folder options, deselect the option to hide known file extensions. right click the file -> rename, change extension from .mp3 to .qcp)
    5. after adding the new file, return to the root of the phone's filesystem (a/) and delete the file called MyToneDB.db (this file is the index of ringtones on the phone)
    6. disconnect the phone and reboot it
    7. you should now have a new ringtone on your phone totally free.

well that wasnt a very helpful comment now was it? fact is that some carriers block the ability to do stuff like that. And some sites send sounds in a format that is not compatible with the phones you are sending them to. Its important to know what kind of formats you can use as a ringer on your phone, and what format the site will send them as.

It is also important to know if you carrier allows doing that. Verizon as I have stated before, puts configuration files into some of their phones that will make the downloaded audio go into a different location than where the ringtones are stored. The ringtone database will only read files that are in the folder for ringtones - thus you can not save an mmsed sound as a ringer.

There ARE other ways of putting ringtones on your phone, it just depends on being willing to go an extra step or two, but it it well worth it to be able to put free ringers on your phone as opposed to paying the network fees for downloading them.

Re: Ringtone? How come it Isnt saving?!

tbh, that is the way I always add ringers to my phone. much more convenient that way than to send it to myself via MMS. (i dont have the sms/mms package on my plan). I always go for the zero cost route.

It is not that hard to do once you have done it once and see that really there is nothing to it. It's just like moving a file onto a different folder on you computer, then rebooting the computer. Nothing to it.
