So yeah, I bought a used Verizon phone from a co worker because I knew that my Alltel retailer would flash it over for me. On my way out she mentioned that I would not be able to receive or send pictures on it. Does anyone know how to help me out? It'd mean a lot.

Hmm.... if you've got a working phone from them (on your current plan) I suppose you should be able to transfer over the necessary files from that phone to the one that you just flashed in order to get it working.

Ithink that there are some guides around the net somewhere that give the general idea of what needs to be done for that to work. Generally though the flash process is done to a phone on certain network to get away from that network's firmware but still maintain the SMS/MMS/DUN/WAP/(and most importantly, calling) functionality on that network.

I'm wondering though ... did they do a full flash over to their firmware (Monster Flash) or did they do a manual program onto the network and leave the verizon firmware on the phone. Technically speaking, if they flash to their firmware with Monster Flash file, all should be set to work properly.

They did the manual one. I can make and receive texts and calls but I can't send pictures or access any applications that use air time.

so the phone is still running the Verizon Firmware?

is there a red bar at the top and bottom of all the screens? if so, that means that the phone is running the verizon firmware. You may do better in that case to find a Monster Flash file for an Alltel phone and flash to that. But the possibility of doing that depends upon what firmware is on the phone. For the answer to that, see this FAQ:

How do I find out what my phone's Firmware/Software version is on my Verizon phone? | HACK THE RAZR

best if you get that info off of the phones menu rather than the sticker under the battery.

Yeah, it is still running on the Verizon software. I just need to find a relatively painless way to flash it over to Alltel. You're really helping me out alot, Spike. My software version is JFJKN1_00.18.08P

hmm.. im not familiar with that firmware. what type phone model is it? (i assumed it was a v3m like a dummy). If you can tell me what the manufacturer and model of the phone is, it may be easier to find a flash file for it.

nm.. i found out what it is looking at a verizon firmware tracker site. its a w385. now we just need to find out if alltel has those on their network and if there is a flash file leaked for it that you can use to go from what you have to alltel firmware.

here also is a flash guide made by Mark Venture (http://mark.cdmaforums.com/HowToFlash.htm) that includes some helpful links to some flash file hosting sites as well as letting you know where to get the applications you need. Note that he is basing his guide on just a general flash, and he bases it off of a guide that is used to flash a phone from verizon firmware to alltel firmware to keep it active on verizon network.

I'm not familiar with Alltel network, do they use *228 to program their phones? I am asking because on VERIZON network, that is the way that we are able to get our phones programmed when we do a Monster flash to a VERIZON firmware (ie... someone botches some hacks/flash to other firmware, and needs to start over.)
