Hello All,
I'm hoping you can help me with something. I have been trying to get a custom ring tone onto my Motorola W385. I finally got the MP3 file onto my phone using the tools software. However, when I go to the audio file, using my phone, to apply it as my ring tone, it won't let me. I can play the file just fine but under the file properties it states "Apply possible: No".
If I download an mp3 from my provider's website and pay for a ringtone there is no problem it allows me to apply it as a ringtone. But, when i add a custom MP3 file, it won't let me.
I suspect that my provider has limited the custom ringtone feature of the phone to prevent us from adding our own ringtones and forcing us to buy from them.
Is there any way around this limitation? Please help.
My provider is Koodo (a division of Telus Mobility) in Canada.
Thanks in advanace for your help on this, it is much appreciated.
J.

Re: W385 - Won't let me apply custom ring tones
Hi bugsy,
Welcome aboard!
I have a w385 & had transfered custom ringtones to it a while back, but never tried them out. I just now tried them, & had the same problem as you. So, I went searching & came up with the following instructions. The instructions worked great for my case. I am using Verizon in the states as my provider.
In my case, I had previously done everything except deleting the 2 files at the end. After I did that, powered the phone off & on, set the ringtone I desired, it worked great!
If you try it out, please reply back with your results.
Using PK2 Commander version 4.9.C & the Motorola USB Handset driver.
Once the drivers are installed - the handset was recognized for me as a modem.
I went to the modem properties and noted its com port.
To get p2kcommander to detect the phone i went to options -
Check use this com port - and set the box to comX - where X is the com port number of the motorola usb modem
I also used new(fast) 3G-P2K commands.
- you are looking for the Uusb p2k device found or P2K Tci IF up messages; Volume name fail! & GENERIC FAILURE. are normal-
Once you have p2kcommander connected - you can drop your ringtones (mp3 files) in the following folder:
a/brew/mod/my_ringers/
Then browse to a/ and delete MyToneDB.db and TmpTneDB.db
Restart the phone and you should be able to use the new mp3 files as ringtones.

Re: W385 - Won't let me apply custom ring tones
tmptonedb file should not need to be deleted.. the file which is the TRUE ringer database is the mytonedb.db file. i would suggest only deleting that file at first and check to see if it works.
ive used the method above with a razr v3m from verizon (different folder location) and only needed to delete the mytonedb.db file.
be sure to powercycle the phone after doing this (turn it off then back on). you will have to restore all your ringers in the profiles though since the phone will reset the ringer profiles to defaults when the file gets deleted and rebuilt.
