How-to: Put a ringtone on your w755...without a data cable!

HEY EVERYONE!

I actually just figured out how to put a ringtone onto my w755 for free.

It turns out that you can only save a sound as a ringtone when its LESS THAN 200 KB. I know, it's a real pain, but it actually works and I was able to set my sound as a ringtone.

Here's how you do it:

1. Choose your mp3

2. Compress your mp3 file so that it is less than 200 kb. There are several ways you can do this. You can do it manually by downloading software such as audacity (it's free). Those of you who would like some information on how to decrease the file size of your mp3 with audacity, let me know and I'll post some info.
If you don't want to download audacity, there's an alternative method (scroll down).

3. Email your ringtone to your phone by entering the following into the "to" address: 7776665555@vzwpix

4. Soon, you should get a text message on your phone. Open it and allow the sound to play.

5. Press "Options" on the right.

6. Select number 4, "Save Sound"

7. On the lower right hand corner should appear the option "Set As" NOTE: This option only appears when your sound file is LESS THAN 200 KB.

8. Selection number 1, "Set As Ringtone"

And...I think you can figure it out from there!


Now, for those of you that don't want to download audio software, you can a website, where you can upload your mp3 files, select which clip to use, and send them to your phone. Some also let you know the size of your file, so you can easily make sure that it is less than 200 KB. However, the only problem is that you cannot compress the file, only shorten it by length (so your clip might end up having to be only 8 seconds or something...)

It took me a while to figure this out, but I hope everyone here can benefit from it!!
