Hi, forum. New guy called ragtop here. got a Motorola V195s on ebay, with a T-mobile pay as i go plan. cannot get Moto phone tools (V5) to create or save an edited sound file as a ringtone. The procedure is not in the help file, but the description of the phonetools says it can be done. Anyone have input, please?

    Thanks!

As far as I know, the V195 can only support MIDI (.mid) ring tones, it does not support MP3/WMA ringers.

Well, that would certainly explain the problem I'm having. I had the distinct impression that I could edit and save musical favorites of mine and convert them to ring tones for my phone. but maybe that was an error on my part. It certainly wouldn't be the first, nor probably the last either. Disapointing, though, because obviously the technology exists but it seems more important to the industry to keep pushing us to new hardware and new more expensive usage plans.

Guess I'm just an incurable old grump

But I can live with it!

Well the V195 was one of Motorola's many phones of "low features" phones. It was designed for people who just need to make phone calls and maybe send a few text messages.

To keep the costs down, they had to cut features, memory, etc. The 195 isn't a bad phone by any means, it just is a phone that really can't be "added" on too and really personalized.

Honestly, if you want a phone that is lower cost, but can add features such as ringtones, I might suggest looking on eBay or your local Craigslist for a Motorola V3 Razor (AKA the Moto Razr). Because they have been on the market for quite some time, the overall cost is pretty low.
