Before you flash, make sure that the USB settings are setup for Modem, not Mass storage or anything else.
2nd, make sure the flash file is the correct one for your phone.
Check ModMyMoto.com to get a correct flash file.

From the main screen (close the phone then reopen it), go to Menu / settings / Others / Connection then usb settings
You'll see where you can change that setting

Ok I see on my phone main menu then go to settings now I have the following.
    1. ring styles
    2. personalize
    3. in-call setup
    4. security
    5. initial setup
    6. network
    7. car settings

    Re: Motorola W385 flashing problem

Then it probably only has 1 setting, modem, which I'm assuming that it is already set to that then.
Forgot the W385 doesn't have a memory card slot, so it probably won't have the mass storage.
Who is your cell carrier? I'll see if I can find the firmware for you.
